Steve Gilmore Reviews: Incidental Fusion - Turning Point
I have known Nicci (Incidental Fusion) for a good while and know that she has a sure enough touch in her field - mainly dancy/moody electronica - that any track is a worthwhile download. Not all artists are that consistent but IF reached that level of sophisication long enough ago to make a real difference. Moreover, being the kind hearted soul that she is, not only does she provide us with worthwhile music, she also offers her own, hand crafted, samples for the rest of us poor souls to plunder and ravage at our wills.

Respec', me bredren, respec'

Although she started on Ejay (steady...steady...) she has - like a lot of ex-Ejay artists - since moved on to softsynths and Reason and has improved markedly with each new track. Speaking of which, it's been a very long time since I heard anything from this source, so let's get to the sweetness....

Using a mixture of sirens and children at play, a subtle piano nibbles at your ears during this track's intro, setting up a beautifully relaxed intro that leads into the track with consummate ease. And is that a ferkin' Tube train I hear coming to a stop in the background? See what I mean? Class act. As it happens the main focus of the track is on the piano riff, one which I know only too well - knowing it's source. What IF has done to this very familiar sample is blindin', and made me realise it's true setting should be a track like this. Because of it's overall familiarity I took to Turning Point like a duck to water and - I suspect - even if you know nothing of its provenance, you will do the same.

Maaarvellous dah'ling!!
