I played the cd while i was working on promoting another bands cd which might seem a bit strange but it is just something that happened and after i had heard the first track "Forever More" i had no choice but to stop what i was doing because this gave me a cold chill down my spine and a thought went through my mind "Why the hell have i not heard this one before"??.
Well i must have played "Forever more" 20 times before i even allowed my cd player to go onto track two, i am a fan of all styles of music, but there is one guy i have always liked and that is "RY COODER" and thats all i could think about while listening to Johans song .
This track could quite simply have been on Ry Cooders album and also my favourite by him entitled "Chicken skin music" and that takes some beating in my eyes but johan had suceeded and i was hooked and i just wonder why in gods name has no-one signed him up??.
Well since first recieving the cd johan has since sent me a video of the second song on this album and that is the heart wrenching song "I Miss You". Well this track "could" have been written and performed by two artists and that is Elton John and Van Morrison and believe me neither of them could have performed it any better than johan and his musical companions.
Now i got onto track three "Spindrift" and with it's mellow soul filled bluesy feel, but what struck me was how close johan had come to also borderlining on a great country song (i am also hooked on country and bluegrass) johan sings "I keep on going down a lonesome empty trail, Where did i fail" it's this waiting i cant cope with anymore it's like spindrift on the shore" and believe me by the time you have reached this point in the song you start to feel sorry for the person in the song.
Well now i am truly hooked and i could go on forever about this album but what else can i say about it other than if you get the chance then get a copy because this is definately a cd that would sit very nicely in anyones cd collection. Johan will go far and of that there is no doubt.
You are now number one on the list of folks I have reviewed on Soundclick. Sorry Maine Street - you are still a strong # 2.
Johan, I can't even begin to measure up to a review of your songs. I've listened to everything you have posted and you have a great vocal quality - I'm totally jealous. The mixes are all well done and the instumentation is nearly impeccable. I like the instrument choices in every tune as well as the execution - are you doing all these parts yourself? If not - you really should credit the other musicians somewhere - maybe on the lyric page. The lyrics are also very well written on all of the tunes.
You remind me a bit of Keb Mo in spots. Your music is not mainstream - which I completely appreciate - and is also causing you difficulty in signing a major recording contract, I suspect. Everything is a bit slow - low key - which I love, but can't compete with BrSp. You have a great sound going - I say keep on - do what you love and know in your heart that commercialism isn't all it's jacked up to be. Music is for the soul, I believe, and the money is tainted anyway.
Great stuff - I love the fact that I can listen to your music from hundreds of miles away. Thanks so much for the contact. Sorry I couldn't provide much in the way of a review - but you are already there, my friend.
Hey sound click members - check this guy out - He's got a really good sound and a bunch of solid songs. Here's his music page link - Go, Listen, Now!!!
Man, I wish you lived next door, I could learn so much.
On "emptiness" I sense kind of an Eric Satie vibe, the early 19th century French composer, do you know him? It's that quiet, understated piano, nice.
Nice piano work on "The harder I fall" too, and nice chords and harmonic structure, like it a lot, and overall a lot of feeling to it, like there should be!
The nice spider-bridge sound is back on "Forever more", and is that a mandolin in there too? I think you guys are really good, laidback players, and that there's a good sense of warmth and emotion in the way you sound, and that's the most important thing of all, and one thing thät's missing in so much music nowadays. You have to sense some kind of devotion as a listener, and you guys manage to get that across very nicely in my opinion. Feeling!
The "With Heart & Soul" CD was very "very" good. This CD was very introspective. I kept thinking about Stevie, the love of my life, the woman of my dreams, as I listened to the soulful songs "Forever more" and "I miss You." They both have a soft western sound to them. The words "I gave her all I had to give still I got more in return" from the song "I miss You" touched my heart in a special way. Hard to listen to this CD with dry eyes.
Thank you very much Johan. Best Wishes for your continued success in your music and in your life. Please pass along my compliments to your fellow musicians. I've recommended your CDs to others on your gallery posting on my web site. Best Regards, Jack
