The Kabalistic notion of gathering the divine lights that had fallen as a result of the “breaking of the vessels” leads to a lifelong goal of repairing the world (tikkun olam) that can require CHASING STRAY FLAMES. In Alan Goldberg’s vision this means bringing more lyre music back into the world. This 13 track instrumental recording of Alan’s original compositions is the music of yearning. From the meditative solo piano tracks “Through It All,” “Fracture,” and “Iktibas” to the hauntingly beautiful lyre pieces “Niggun Menuha,” “Traveler’s Niggun,” and the traditional “Ki Haym Chayenu”, a strong foundation of Emunah – faith, keeps the tension of yearning from falling into songs of despair. Percussion, including Middle Eastern instruments and rhythms are used in the songs “The Printer,” “Sea Dance,” and “Sparks in the Early Rain” to emphasize the fusion of new and old, and to enhance the expression of the more forceful voices of the lyre. The expression of yearning crystallizes in “Lyre Kavanah” a term applied to solo lyre playing while in an intense, focused spiritual state – this may very well be what King David did when he was composing the Psalms on his lyre! This music brings its own light into our consciousness while relaxing and calming our inner selves. Perfect for meditation, massage, healing groups, therapy, end of day winding down, and quiet contemplation.

Editor's Review:Austin, Tex., instrumentalist Alan Goldberg creates a hybrid between traditional Hebrew and New Age music. The 30-string lyre he uses rings clear and the melodies evoke other times. The resulting sound is both soothing and reflective.
