Interview
HELLO, WELCOME! THANKS FOR COMING BY!

This is all about making some noise and having a good time. Although I record on my own at times, VMP is intended to be a "Rock School" of sorts, the little ones have been at it since early in 07 and the older girls a little longer. That Summer we thought it would be a cool concept to post the recordings of our little family project here on SoundClick so friends and family could track our progression. The goal here is to instill a lifelong appreciation for music and to keep it fun, and not necessarily the resulting tracks that we currently have posted. A world of thanks to our extremely talented SoundClick friends who provide oodles of kindness and encouragement, making this project so fun and positive! You all Rock!

Why this name?

VMP is short for View Master Piggies. Came up with name many years ago, it's not so great but thought I'd stick with it. One of my earliest memories was being transfixed with the farm scenes disk on the Viewmaster my grandmother had, and I'm a sucker for nostalgia. Considering switching from VMP (USA) to View Master Piggies because there are multiple VMPs on My Space and even another one on SoundClick!

Do you play live?
Being a family outfit VMP has the luxury of playing at a moments notice. Saturday nights are usually set aside to rock our back deck in the Summer months, we've set up in the dining room for the time being and really enjoy making a hell of a racket! Nah, we haven't played out yet, everyone's a bit shy but we play for friends and family every now and then on the back deck.

How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The music industry is being forced to evolve in order to survive the emergence of this all encompassing medium. The net can allow the masses to peek through the veil of blatant commercialization so prominent in this day and age. Although the big fish may be negatively impacted long term, opportunities to be heard arise for the little guy. Look for the continued emergence of independent artists and a gradual slimming down of the music industry's fat cats. Anything is possible with the web, so keep plugging folks, dreams really can come true!

Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
There are countless artists out there with real talent that are much more deserving. In fact, there are lots of SoundClick artists, including many of our friends, that deserve to be signed to lucrative contracts right now.

Band History:
Mike has appeared in local pop-punk bands in southern New England including Gung Ho Scouts and The Stores. My former bandmates are now SoundClickers too, pretty cool to keep in touch through here. Played bass and sang, couldn't do either particularly well but had fun. Underground recording projects followed.

Music has always been an important part of our family life, early in 2007 we purchased instruments for everyone and the decision was made to start the VMP project.

Your influences?
Everything from every day modern culture to The Ramones, Poison Ivy Rorschach of The Cramps, Dick Dale, Sonic Youth, B-52s, The Clash, and countless others (including some of the great artists right here on SoundClick!); or anything fun, sweet, and noisy.

"I still like the idea of playing for the pure euphoria. I think guitarists can get caught up in trying to be recognized for something technical or intricate that they're doing, but they lose the whole world of getting high just from playing when they do that." --Poison Ivy Rorschach
Favorite spot?
Our back deck in Southern New England. Woodstock, Vermont, and the kids: Walt Disney World, where else!
