Why this name?
"A painter paints his pictures on canvas. But musicians (and composers) paint their pictures on silence. We provide the music, and you provide the silence."
-Leopold Stokowski
-Leopold Stokowski
Do you play live?
Nicholas has played live in a music department store named Riverton Music Company in Riverton, UT. He has performed many piano solo and chamber concerts there; a four-part choir, Viola, Piccolo, and him on the piano. They all volunteered and worked very well together.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet allows artists like Nicholas to present his music to anybody free of charge. He feels this can enhance his career in music and also may influence young minds into the world of composition and experimentation.
Band History:
He started out by teaching himself piano in 1983 for eight to twelve hours a day. He then began to write songs in 1990 using only the piano. He created a book of songs copyrighted in 1999. He now has a synthesizer and koto; a Japanese harp, and is reproducing old pieces and new compositions. Over 200 pieces have been composed, arranged, improvised and completed.
Your influences?
Beethoven is his original influence. He then fell in dear admiration towards Rachmaninov's XVIII variation on a Theme of Paganini. He than gained influence from Nobuo Uematsu who has written many scores for computer entertainment software programs. His latest influences are those of Japanese Koto masters and their compositions influenced by Koto Master Sawai Tadao.
Equipment used:
He uses number theory, music theory, logic and emotion to help influence his compositions. His major instruments available to him are the pianoforte, Korg Triton Studio Workstation, and the Koto.
