Mel Thorpe & The Sucktones were assembled back in the early 1920s. It started out as a band of gypsies playing at bah mitzvah's mostly. Over the years most of the members committed suicide by overdosing on egg yolks taken intravenously.
Curiously, these days the band is mostly made up of Grammy award winning River Dancers and rejects from the Blue Man group. This was not planned, its just a weird coincidence.
The band tours constantly, never in the same city two nights in a row. You can usually catch them playing at your local animal shelter, dental office or sponge factory. Basically any place that is capable of housing the massive number of fans that show up to all their shows. Including the group of one-legged hermaphrodites that follow us around the world and never miss a show.
Lots of people joined over the years, most of them died. The initiation into the band is a difficult one. Not only do you need to be able to play polka rythmns of 72/46 time, but you also have to take dry Jello mix intravenously along with a half gallon of water, then you must pee it out into a Jello mold and eat it once it has set.
The later part of the initiation tends to weed out the weaklings.
Yes, we play live everyday. Yes we like it. We did a show one time in Bulgaria where people paid their admission in Kielbasa. We ate well for 6 months after that show!
