If you wanna see waht we have left and available then go to www.combatshock.co.uk there is a contact email and prices of what we have.
Band/artist history
Combat Shock unscrewed their first cider bottle cap together in the distant hazy April of '94. We formed for the same reason many bands form and that's boredom. We were already active in organising gigs of a punk sort but wanted to get involved a little bit more. Instruments were alien objects to most of us but we got stuck in and gigged as soon as we could. The lineup was Mel & Matty on vox, Shithead on guitar, Dave on bass and Sonny on drums. Our first impromptu performance(without a bassplayer) was at one of our own gigs at the Bowling Green in Wisbech (Cambs). It was Mel's 21st bash, so the beer was aflowing and we made an unholy racket. The other unsuspecting bands on the night were Suicidal Supermarket Trolleys, Decadent Few and PMT (all now sadly defunct). A few practices later we played the Bowling Green again but this time with The Shrinking Violets (ex-Highliners) and the mighty Red Flag 77, who we share drinks with to this day. We played well so it was time to record our debut demo "Born To Booze" at Gem's studio in Boston (Lincs). The session went well and we came out with 8 songs intact! We pressed tapes up ourselves and sold them to the unsuspecting public. The rest went to various zines who reviewed it quite favourably and in the end 200 saw themselves arrive in various countries around the world. We gigged constantly around the UK until we recorded a new set of tracks for our own amusement. One of our songs was a cover of "Not Me" for a future Subhumans cover LP, but sadly it never saw the light of day. Probably a good thing because it was dog rough. It was not helped by the fact that half of the band were pissed and on ecstasy culminating in Mel celebrating the event by vomiting in the snow. This lineup was to come to an abrupt halt following our first UK tour with Police Bastard. Beginning to end was a drunken haze and Mel and Dave's personalities were clashing. It all ended with shouting in the streets of Birmingham and Sonny and Mel were left to pick up the pieces. Not prone to giving up easily, the remaining members found 2 new recruits on their way home. The new more youthful lineup was to be Mel on vox, Mooner on guitar, Lee on bass and Sonny on drums. We all shared a fondness for alcohol and punk rock, so a partnership was formed. We got back to the rehearsal room and soon wrote some new songs as well a few "Shock" chestnuts. Our first gig together (after about 2 weeks of practice) was in Edinburgh at the Punx Picnic of '97. We played with 2000 DS and the crowd were going nutzoid so it gave us the perk we needed to get back in action. We gigged all over the UK and recorded a split demo with the Bus Station Loonies. It didn't sell as well as the previous demo. Mainly because we didn't push it as much and the production wasn't really up to scratch. Shortly afterwards we recorded our debut 21 track CD for Bomb Factory records, called "Wishful Drinking". It's still a mystery exactly how many were sold, but it certainly opened up a few doors for us. The songs were by far the best we'd written and the production was great. Lee took a break from the band after the birth of his newborn (the lovely Jake) which resulted in stand in bassplayers for the next 2 years to come (namely Joe Dunton, Bob Mardle and Steve from "Anti-patriots"). Lee later rejoined for an ace UK tour with W.O.R.M. and the recording of our debut 7" EP "Hospital Food" on Weird Records, which has since sold-out. (cheers Ian) We have also done a few dates in France with the superb RED FLAG 77, who took us under their wing and showed what life gigging in Europe could be like, needless to say we had a wonderful time and met some cracking people. We played 3 dates around the Brittany region and to each gig there were always 200/300 peeps there, we played an excellent squat called LE WAGON, which if memory serves me correctly was in a place called SAINT BRIENC ( feel free to correct if wrong Ricki !!!!) if you ever get the chance to play france try and head for this area as it would seem alot of bands miss out on going to France, for us it was worth it. In October 2000, Mel and Sonny need a change from Wisbech and decided to move to Brighton. Lee left the group and Mooner stayed with us. Since living here, we've hooked up with some top herberts. The lineup now is Mel on vox, Bemble on bass, Garth on guitar, Mooner on guitar and Sonny on drums. So far we've written lots of superior songs of punk-rockness and gigged where we can, including "Holidays in the sun" 2001 fest (Morecambe), which was great fun.... In the last year or so we have a aquired a 3rd guitarist!!! Malc who plays most brighton gigs and "away" events as Garth has an aversion to travelling (we call him Mr T). Malc, if you have not already guessed from the photos is the mad one who has a penchant for dressing up and recently complained upon moving house that he now owned 3 bin bags full of dresses and such !!! And finally for those who missed out last time a back catalogue collection CD of all the greatest "Shock" songs past and present called "Forgotten but not gone" is now out and available by contacting us on , Beat Bedsit records. We are also slowly trying to write our long awaited 2nd album, but as everyone and their dog in Brighton is in a band, rehearsal space is very hard to come by...... So watch this space for new news on "Shock" matters and thanks for reading our waffle. Up the punx Combat Shock 2005
