I AM HIV POSITIVE!
I am a man. I was born and raised in Fresno, California and just like everyone else, I was faced with daily challenges. I come from a family of five, three sisters and one brother, me being the oldest. We were a poor family that survived on welfare and lived in affordable housing. My mother and father separated before I was born, two years later after she gave birth to my sister, my mother met my stepfather.
Being young and from unstable homes my parents partied a lot, I remember the physical and verbal fights that took place, which has scared me till this day. My sister and I were left unattended many times and with strangers my parents trusted. On one occasion my mom’s youngest brother stayed home with me and my sister to watch us as she went to run errands, I was four years old when my uncle took me aside and asked me to pull my pants down and threatened me to never say a word, I didn’t until I was twelve and my mother would not believe me for years said that I was too young to remember any of this happening. Incest took place with an older cousin years later and went on for a time without any family members ever knowing.
The relationship between my mom and I was very close growing up and I saw her as a friend that I could tell anything to, unfortunately being the oldest I was also the shoulder she cried on regularly when my stepdad was abusive. So my relationship with my stepfather was very distant, although I tried to love him and wanted for him to stop being so cruel and just love me, hold me, tell me that I was somebody. I have always had a deep need for his approval and acceptance, never felt I got that as a child or early teenage years.
Junior and high schools were difficult for me in trying to find my identity, because at this time I knew that I was attracted to boys and had a longing to be comforted by them. Wasn’t long after when I engaged in my first sexual encounter by a much older man, I was intimidated and scared for my life, but from that point on the curiosity I had for being with men grew. Not much longer after this episode I fell into soliciting myself around a local adult bookstore, which was within walking distance from where I lived. This was also the first place I found acceptance from others that had the same desires to be with men.
I came out to my mom and stepdad when I was 17 years old, relieved by their reactions to not disown me. By this time the countless number of sexual hook ups was overwhelming, I enjoyed what I was doing, the free alcohol and drugs was fun, but I kept that part of my life a secret for years out of shame. March 27, 1998 was the day I will never forget, as I was taken into a room while under the influence of methamphetamine to be given results that I was HIV positive. The drugs then progressed, with me wanting to take my life and die but scared because I believed that I was now given the judgment to eternal life in hell, that God hates Fags. Many in and out of the church are still using this statement, which is very ignorant. After I recovered from this news I went straight back to a gay community of acceptance, clubs, social gatherings in the parks and streets. I was naive to think that it wouldn’t get worse. Four years later I was diagnosed with full blown AIDS, Hepatitis C and colon cancer.
A year before I told my mom I was gay, she had given her life to the Lord, and told me throughout the years how much Jesus loved me, that no sin is greater than another. I always knew that homosexuality was not the norm. But I also knew that these feelings I had were not a choice. January 2003 I accepted Our Lord Jesus Christ as my personal Savior, in a time where I was unsure how much longer I had to live because of AIDS and desperately needed assurance that I wouldn’t go to hell. Every opportunity I had to go church I was there praying asking God to save me from a gay life that I had never asked for. His Holy Spirit poured down on my life and took all away my pain, hurt, resentment, hate, drug addiction, sickness, prostitution and an identity of being gay. Through His grace and mercy and most importantly His Love I have Freedom from being bound by sin.
God has healed me physically from Hepatitis C and colon cancer and this is only the beginning. I still have a positive result of the HIV virus in my blood, but Jesus Christ specializes in blood. I believe God moves in steps with us and through all that I have endured and challenges I have faced, this has built my faith up where I am learning to trust God My Father, not a report given by a doctor. I’m still a work in process and am taking it one prayer at a time. The love that was given through His Son Jesus Christ when He willingly died and sacrificed His flesh and blood on a cross for our sins to be forgiven can never be bought nor compromised.
Today, it has been over 3 years since I have surrendered my gay life. God has lead me to share my testimony to thousands on the Internet, church outreaches, schools and various religious functions. I am currently the Director of the Red Ribbon AIDS Project which is a ministry that not only Educates and Prevents the spread of HIV/AIDS, but helps direct and assist individuals who tested positive with the HIV/AIDS virus. I know I have so many dreams and goals but most importantly Eternal Life in Heaven that would have never have been possible without God being #1 in my life.

It is nice to see someone backing up his words with love in action. You work with all kinds of people. That is nice.
Remember to work IN CHRIST, with His strength, not your own. And that the message which will really set them free is the message of the Gospel.
A word of encouragement. Lilo

Ephesians 6:10-13
6:10 Finally, be strengthened in the Lord and in the strength of his power. 6:11 Clothe yourselves with the full armor of God so that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens. 6:13 For this reason, take up the full armor of God so that you may be able to stand your ground on the evil day, and having done everything, to stand.
A. Do you fell that life is battle?
• Satan prince of this earth.
• Satan roaring lion – he out there to destroy you in every way he can.
• What the Spirit wants of you is totally opposite of what the flesh desires.
B. Put on:
(1. Belt – Truth)
• Ephesians 6:14a
• Truth about God (omnipresent, omniscience , omnipotent, loving, gracious& etc)
- It is important to allow God to reveal to us who He really is (never put God in a box)
- Ask God to reveal Himself – and you will receive it
• Truth about yourself without God ( useless, fit for hell,
- “Those who humble themselves they will be exalted”
- Many Christians want to exalt God + themselves… it won’t work
- It is God’s business to exalt us
- We even ought to consider others better than us
• Truth about who you are in Christ (highly favored, deeply loved, greatly blessed & etc)
(2. Breastplate – Righteousness)
• Ephesians 6:14b
• 2 Corinthians 5:21… you are the righteousness of God in Christ
(3. Boots – Peace)
• Ephesians 6:15
• Bringing peace wherever you go (opposite of what the natural “war” brings)
• Having the peace (confidence) – not worried
(4. Shield – Faith)
• Ephesians 6:16
• Faith in God is the currency in the kingdom of God
(5. Helmet – Salvation)
• Ephesians 6:17a
• John 3:16…Having Salvation in Christ Jesus
(6. Sword – Word of God)
• Ephesians 6:17b
• Memorizing, meditating and believing in Word of God
• Jesus rebuke Satan by using the Word of God
C. Go into battle:
(7. By PRAYING IN THE SPIRIT)
• Ephesians6:18
• The battle is the Lord – So if you fight the battle of life on your own – you will surely loose it!

John 21:9, 12
9Then, as soon as they had come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid on it, and bread… 12Jesus said to them, “Come and eat breakfast.”
• John 5:19… Jesus came to earth to do so much. One of the most important things He came to do was to represent the Father’s heart and will. Every religious person desires to know God. But the bible says unless we know we Jesus, we will never know the Father.
•
• John 21:3-6… Jesus cared when His disciples were out at sea the whole night, cold and shivering. He cared when they caught nothing that night. He cared that they would not have fish to sell and would go hungry. So He gave them a huge catch early the next morning. He knew that they were cold and hungry, so He prepared breakfast for them, served over a fire of coals to keep warm. Jesus cares about our little daily needs.
•
• I often pray for little little things in my daily life such as,
1. What to wear on that certain day
2. What to say / not to say before making a certain phone call
3. What color to choose when buying a gift for someone
4. Whom to be with on a day when I am desiring fellowship
5. Which book to read when browsing through the library & etc
• To some, this may sound ridiculous. To some, this may sound so not independent. To some, this may sound unnecessary. But to God, when we come to Him about anything and everything in our daily life, we compliment Him because we are telling Him that He is our Daddy God. And we are His little child who depends on Him and Him alone.
•
• The breakfast incident of Jesus and His friends should make us realize that our God is not just interested in the big things that happen to us. He bothers and cares about the minor things in our lives too. There is nothing too small for Him.
•
• Some religious people have the idea that God only wants us to bring the big things to Him, and that He doesn’t want us to bother Him with small things. Our God cares about everything that we experience — from the small ulcer in our mouth to our concern about the weather. When we tell Him about the inconvenience that might arise if the bus is late, He takes note of that too.
•
• Zechariah 2:8… Jesus shows us that God is our loving heavenly Father who cares about the things that happen every day in our lives. Nothing escapes His eyes because He loves us! If you are in Christ today you are the apple of God’s eye.

Philippians 4:6
be worried for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.
• Philippians 4:6 can be divided into 3 parts…
1. God doesn’t want us to be fearful, worried or anxious. Instead, God wants us to “be anxious for nothing, (He does not stop there – He has a perfect suggestion… He goes on to say…)
2. When we have a care or a worry, straightaway turn that care or worry into prayer. That’s prayer and supplication.
3. And in the midst of that care or worry, thank God that He is already your healing, provision, prosperity, good success and victory. That is thanksgiving. That is FAITH!
• When we are troubled by a care or worry we often don’t know how to pray, this is when we pray in the Spirit.
•
• Philippians 4:7… How long do we need to pray about something? Keep on praying, and pray in the Spirit until the care lifts, the worry fades “and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus”.
•
• John 16:7… When you are facing a challenge;
1. The first thing to do is run to God… not to anyone else. Not even to self and end up in Self pity (some of us often do)
2. Do not be anxious and instead turned your worry into prayer. Ask the Lord to settle it for you
3. Be thankful in faith
4. Pray in the spirit (tongues & understanding)
5. Relax and realize that now it is God’s challenge not yours!
•
• Matthew 6:25-34… We would worry a lot less and enjoy our lives a lot more if only we realize this truth:
1. Our Abba Father is so strong that there is nothing He cannot do
2. He is so loving that there is nothing He will not do for us!
