One of my bands in the early 70s played a lot of bluegrass, as well as country and country rock, and we had a pretty fair harp player (also played dobro and guitar) who would take breaks on bluegrass standards.

I never realized how unusual this was until later, and harmonicas are rare even today at bluegrass jams, but I love the way harmonica can blend with and smooth out the janglier tones of the strings.

It is a definite style however, and I know some very good blues harp players who can't wrap their heads around a bluegrass tune the way you can.

One other place where I have heard great bluegrass style harp is on the CD 'Pickin on the Grateful Dead', which contains all instrumental versions of Dead classics, and features the most excellent harmonica playing of Tom Ball.
