Illegal Zucchini
NEWS
Illegal Zucchini’s CD "Candy Bubbles" was recognized in Cincinnati City Beat (12/21/00-01/03/01 issue) in the category of "The Best of The Rest". The article was entitled "A look back at our favorite local music CDs released in 2000" by Mike Breen (www.citybeat.com). "Candy Bubbles" and "Wiggle Prick" are featured in the movie "YOU'VE GOT FEMALE" (Creative Productions-hotmovies2000.com). Starring JULIE STRAIN of Playboy TV's Sex Court and Heavy Metal 2000. Plus scream queen and centerfold JULIE K. SMITH. Featuring Leslie Culton (HOOKERS IN A HAUNTED HOUSE), Jenny Wallace (VAMPS and RED LIPPS 2) and a bevy of gorgeous newcomers. "...when working on another level - the Legend of Johnny Stagger is like drifting on an innertube into a cartoon city - peopled by old friends dressed in indifference and floating on beer bubbles... unexpected turns in the stream- find you back at your private reveries... bittersweet and heavy on solitude- but it's never a downer- it's one floor above indifference... two smoke signals!..." by anon spoke, 2001.

WHAT ABOUT ILLEGAL ZUCCHINI:
Illegal Zucchini consists of Cincinnati-based musicians with two CD's "Candy Bubbles" and "The Legend of Johnny Stagger". The CD's specialize in casual rock, country, and idiocy, all bordering on indifference. Their CD's are available on MP3.com.
LISTEN.COM REVIEW: "Illegal Zucchini are like Guided By Voices in that they're from Ohio and they sing with British accents. They also play a derivative of the same mid-1960s Beatles stuff (but much cleaner than GBV's version) with songs about sunlight and happiness instead of songs about being a forty-year-old heavy drinker who lives alone." By Mike McGuirk, staff writer.

Why this name?
We tried to smoke/think of the most obscure substance possible; hence Illegal Zucchini? Zucchini is Grimace!
Do you play live?
The "Green Machine" has completed their follow-up CD, "The Legend of Johnny Stagger". "Bood Sisters: Vamps 2" is wrapped and Johnny Stagger and Barry Moermond are cast in the flick! Woo Hoo!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It offers a new medium in which listeners can choose and actually make decisions regarding music without being told what to listen to and why!
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Uncontrollably!
Band History:
Mike O'Moore and John Faxon (formerly of One Brown Shoe) began recording music together in 1999. With the help of Heyoka-I, they recorded several tracks that proved to be "the sound" they were striving to achieve with One Brown Shoe. Thus, Illegal Zucchini was born!
Your influences?
We have always appreciated the genius of The Beatles, with snippets of The Byrds, Tom Petty, The Doors, and too many other influential artists to mention.
Favorite spot?
Wherever we are at any given moment.
Equipment used:
Nothing fancy. Just class.
Anything else...?
Decriminalize Zucchini! No Zucchini shall go uncounted! Tune in, turn on, eat your veggies. Zucchini IZ Grimace! Incidentally, Illegal Zucchini is contributing a track to the upcoming movie, "Planet of the Erotic Apes"(Creative Productions).
