"Children of the VendingMachine" was formed shortly after the break up of "60 Cycle Hum." The two original members were, the guitarist Tyler James, and the bassist Andrew Schmutz. A couple weeks after they formed, James and Schmutz were pondering the idea of adding a second guitarist. They settled on Keegan Cole.
Shortly after those events, the band acquired their first gig. Opening for another local band "The Green Interior." So of course they had to get a drummer. They picked Robert Johnson, he said yes. Then trouble struck, everyone else started to get mad at Robert. He was then released from the band. Because of internal problems with "TGI" the concert never happened.
About a month later a friend of the band, Aaron Hullet, offered the band a gig playing with his band at The Place. So Schmutz, James, and Cole went out and asked a local youth minister, Jody Waldrop, to drum for them. He accepted. There were some internal problems with Hullet's band, and long story short they kicked Aaron out. But "Children of the VendingMachine" decided to go on with the show. They had "No Rod 4 Rooster" open for them. The concert was a complete success.
Next came the Junction City concert. Ohh what a night that was. "Children of the VendingMachine" had a guest drummer drum for them. Thing was... HE WAS STONED OUT OF HIS FRIGGIN MIND! The show overall bombed because of his stoned ass.
Next came the Brad Harmer Case. A man emailed Schmutz and said he has a comedy tour in Britain with same name which has a copyright. He threatened to sue the band if they didn't change the name. They decided to screw him and drop the issue. Until he emailed once again. Schmutz contacted lawyers who said we had nothing to worry about. But since the band didn't want to be caught in a legal issue with a british bastard they decided to change the name to "Children of the VendingMachine" notice there is no space.
After that came the awesome preformance at Keegan Cole's house on the 4th of July. This concert produced a great live cd, you can order by contacting Keegan Cole (his email is on the home page). Soon you will be able to listen to three of the songs on purevolume.com (look us up!!)
Then came a tragedy. Tyler James' (we kicked him out after the place gig) mom had an accident at her work. She was taken to the hospital and found to have had three anyerisms in her head. The band had a gig coming up in Fort Riley so they decided that all tips would go to the James family. The day after the gig Tyler's mom passed away. Keegan Cole, Matt K., Dan and Scott Breidenstein, and a few others went to the funeral. Tyler played 50's Lovesong (a song arranged by Tyler,Keegan, and schmutz) in memory of his mom.
Then came a concert at the Abilene Band Shell. CoVM played with Dear Murphy. CoVM blew Dear Murphey out of the water. Big T drummed for CoVM and had a drum off with Dustin Neff, the drummer for Dear Murphy. Big T won. The concert was taped three times thanks to the Cole Parents, the Stuss Parents, and a friend of Schmutz's, Adam Hopp.
