Fifty Shades of Gray

Insert meaning here _____________! It's one of those songs that changes every time you hear it. Mellow, but also very strong and full.

Smoke and Mirrors

Groove, with acoustic elements. You don't need to play a lot of notes, just to jam a little.

Picture for song 'Austin' by artist 'waco hoover'

Austin

Moody song, with blues type sounds. A little rock, a little country, slower than the others, but still has a good pace to it.

Tuesday Morning

A folk-ish song about the downfalls of happiness, that never really explains what the downfalls of happiness are. What?

Dance Upon Air (Mixdown2)

This is a second mixdown of Dance Upon Air. Not a whole lot different, but a little less reverb on the vocals.

Band/artist history
I started playing guitar my Freshman (Freshperson for those who may) year in highschool, in 1993-1994. I didn't even know how to tune it so I just picked out notes that I heard on the radio or CD. The next year, my friend Fred asked me if I wanted to play guitar in a large ensemble that he was taking to contest and I of course said yes. So, I bought a chord book, tuned the guitar, and learned the song. We did well at contest and I stuck with it. My dad always says that I told him that I was going to play guitar at solo and enemble contest, and he said,"I didn't know that you played guitar." I started learning songs by ear so, I never really learned properly. The first songs that I learned were Dave Matthews Band, Queensryche, Beatles, and Dream Theater songs, but when I would write my own stuff, I leaned more towards the acoustic Dave Matthews/Neil Young type stuff. I've been in and out of a few bands that never really went anywhere, and thought it was time to do something on my own, or as close to it as possible. waco hoover is me and my heart, and although there are some Dave Matthews type elements, it would be hard to say that we are one in the same. I don't really stick with one style, because I listen to almost every type of music that there is. I hope that what you hear is a reflection of that, along with my soul, on a platter for your enjoyment.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Yes, I play live, just solo right now, in and around Texas. I live in downtown Dallas and I am looking to play a lot of gigs. If anyone can help me, please e-mail or post a message on the board.
Your musical influences
Dave Matthews band and Bela Fleck and the Flecktones are two of my all time favorites, but I am also influenced by a lot of idie music as well, like The National, Richmond Fontaine, Richard Buckner and Built to Spill. I'd have to be lying if I said I wasn't influenced by the Texas Country scene as well, with the likes of Ray Wylie Hubbard, Willie Nelson, and Robert Earl Keen.
What equipment do you use?
Fostex VF-16 digital recorder, Fender electrics(telesonic and strat), Yamaha acoustics, Fender amps, John Pierce and Martin strings. Also, a Masterpiece banjo, Hohner Special 20 and Pro harps, Lee Oscar harps, a really cheap Casio keyboard, and an e-bow. Various mics, including an MXL2001 condenser, Shure SM58's, Audix Drum mics, and an EV N/D267 that I bought for $7 (man I really miss Mars Music). Mixed using Cool Edit Pro 2. (I'll have to ask Joe or Ryan about the drums, cymbals, and percussion, so if you want to know, let me know.)
Anything else?
Thanks for listening, and if you have any questions, interests, or comments, drop me a line.
