In Israel he studied with former Soviet composer Yossef Bardanashvili.

Recent performances of Dorman’s work in the 2003-2004 season include Variations Without a Theme, premiered by the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Zubin Mehta in November 2003; his first violin sonata debuted at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall; his Udacrep Akubrad performed by the percussionist duo Percadu at Festival Miami 2003, and later on in the season, with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra; his Concerto Grosso performed by the Ashdod Chamber Orchestra; Psalm 67 commissioned by the Seraphim Singers performed in Boston; and a ballet based on his String Quartet No. 1 performed by the Florence Dance Company at the Teatro Goldoni, Florence.
