Lessons In Self-Destruction is the brain child of singer/songwriter Arjay Skywalker Burks. The only genre the band will claim is "Rock", with songs that come straight from the heart. The group formerly disbanded in 2008.
Why this name?
"The Bandname is kind of a 50/50 thing as to the meaning behind it. Part of me says it has to do with me learning how to tear through the old versions of myself through these songs. Each song being another lesson in self-destruction. The other part says it's about Rock N' Roll in general. Throughout the history of Rock from Elvis to The Beatles to Guns N' Roses to Nirvana there has been so much self-destruction. I'm sort of paying homage to that idea." -R.J.
Do you play live?
We've done some shows at Sonoma State University, Napa Valley College and those are the most fun. College shows are just a lot of fun.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
MP3s give me the chance to get my stuff across the globe by a "free to everyone" scenerio.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
It really depends, I think that if the label were willing to meet me all-the-way I would sign us to a label. Just the marketing benefits are worth the jump, I'd be afraid of losing my identity a bit, but I think I could maintain a level head.

Your influences?
My musical influences don't neccessarily represent the rest of my band. I'm real big on the Beatles and Nirvana, those were the two big motivatators in my songwriting and playing. But there are other things too, The Stones, Prince, Van Halen, Guns N' Roses, Buckethead...those are what I listen to the most and to an extent they influence me. I just kind of let whatever happens, happen.
Favorite spot?
Bellvue, Washington...close to Seattle, not as much traffic.
Equipment used:
A lot of stuff.
