SPIDERintheHALL is a one man electro-industrial project based out of Akron, Ohio. Singer/songwriter Craig Huston has been producing and recording music under the SPIDERintheHALL moniker for a little over twelve years, using various bits of recording hardware attatched to his home pc. The music ranges in style from harsh, industrial work to electronic drum and bass, and even dark ambiance.
Why this name?
I just kind of threw some word combinations together, and eventually one of them sounded cool, so I kept it.
Do you play live?
We do play live, though rarely. We've played several shows for a local Hot Topic store, and we will be playing festival shows as often as possible in the summer of each year.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It definitely helps out the little guy. I never would have been able to get anywhere near the interest i've gotten so far without having access to resources like what I can find online.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Sure, i'd still sign on with a label, as long as they understood the climate that the industry is adopting now.
Band History:
I started SPIDERintheHALL about twelve years ago, in 1999, working with some processed drumbeats on an old console gaming system. From there I tackled larger projects and song structures on my home pc, and i've been churning out demos ever since.
Your influences?
I listen to a lot of industrial music, real harsh, noisy stuff. Old Nine Inch Nails, Skinny Puppy, Ministry, that sort of thing. I also draw a lot of my singing style from David Bowie, Gary Numan, and Peter Murphy from Bauhaus, we've all got that sort of monotone vocal structure.
Favorite spot?
I'll have to get back to you, haven't done enough traveling yet. I will say though that i'm a bit of a homebody, so my favorite place to be is probably right here where I have easy access to my recording software.
Equipment used:
I use an e-machine pc for my recording and most of the music is generated from my Roland E-200 keyboard.
