NEWS
Hey GNG fans, guess what? THE NEW CD IS DONE! Summer's Calling will be out before Summer, once I finish the art work for the cover. All new mixes (way better than what's on the site), some new lead vocals, and hopefully some tunes that will become some of your GNG favorites. Email me if you want a copy, yours for free as long as you cover the postage and envelope, around $4. Thank you everyone for your patience. It hopefully was worth the wait!

Who is this GNG guy and where did he come from? Well, GNG is actually me, Gary Ng. I grew up listening to the great rock and pop songs of the 60's. As a kid I was never without a transistor radio to my ear. But then came disco in the 70's, techno in the 80's, rap in the 90's, and enough was enough! After threatening that I could write songs better than what was on the radio, I started writing - and recording - on my home PC. I play all instruments, and sing all the vocals. The rest, as they say, is history. Listen to his songs and you'll hear a bit of the Beatles, a bit of the Beach Boys, and a lot of 60's influence. Melodies, harmonies, and guitars. What more could you want?
Why this name?
CSN, CCR... Hmmm, how about GNG? Figured it was easier than trying to learn how to say a last name that has no vowels.
Do you play live?
I play dead sometimes, but rarely live.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Incredible! The idea that anyone can write a song, record it on a computer, and release it to the masses is fantastic. I love the feedback, too, so email me if you hear a song you like.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Absolutely. I just finished my third CD called SUMMER'S CALLING. If you want a copy, email me at SanDiegoNg@roadrunner.com for more info. It's cheap! I only want to cover my costs and share the music.
Band History:
On Valentines Day 2003 my wife surprised me with some Cakewalk recording software. I looked around and saw that I had a ton of guitars just lying around. So I set off on a goal to write 12 songs and release my own CD. I had never written a complete song before, never sang into a mic before, never recorded music before. Basically, I had no clue what I was doing. But the songs, good and bad, kept popping into my head and 14 songs and 9 months later, I finally have enough songs to release my first CD "Nobody's Perfect". Listening to that CD now, man, it's really rough in spots, but some great songs - Old Surfers Rule still rocks in an analog sort of way, and Life in an SUV is still one of my favorites to play live.
My second CD, Gone Coastal, was written during a tough time. Lots of crummy stuff happening in my life, but the cool thing is that I was able to channel all the negative energy into some great positive songs. I also learned how to play the ukulele, so some new textures and my production and "sound" came together.
I'm JUST finished my latest CD, SUMMER'S CALLING! I'm working on the cover right now and will have it out to the masses in just a bit. If you've already downloaded the mp3's, you'll still want this album as it features all new mixes and some new lead vocals. It's totally cool, if I do say so myself!

Your influences?
The Beatles. The Beach Boys. The Monkees. The Turtles. CSN. Marshall Crenshaw. The Jayhawks and the whole alt-country thing. If it's got a melody and some harmonies, I like it.
Favorite spot?
San Diego is my home.... but hey, Maui is pretty damn nice, too.
Equipment used:
Taylor acoustic guitars, Fender Tele and Strat, Lanikai ukulele, Squire Bass (don't laugh at me, it's all I got), Fender mandolin, a bunch of harmonicas and percussion stuff, Roland Vdrums, Cakewalk GuitarTracks Pro software, SmartLoops for drumloops, and Shure / Sennheiser mics.
Anything else...?
What do you have to lose? If you like harmonies and simple music you can hum to, or if you like surf instrumentals (songs I never wrote lyrics to), you'll like my stuff! Click away and listen to my songs.
