While the Canadian music scene continues to shock the industry, producer, musician, and writer JL Prophet has taken the helm as Canada’s representative for the large presence that small-town living has on present-day hip-hop.

Born in Pembroke, Ontario, JL was no different than many homegrown, Canadian kids: his family moved from town to town; he had issues with authority in high school; was generally a troubled youth. For JL, only two things remained constant: his appreciation for the hip-hop genre, and his yearning to develop the writing and producing he had begun when he was 15.

Having decided to seriously pursue the music industry, JL enrolled in Music Industry Arts at Fanshawe College. Having already written, performed, and produced his own material years before, JL became a quick study at Fanshawe College. His skills as a producer would soon catch the eye of Grammy Winning & OIART Professor Dan Brodbeck who, even before JL’s graduation, would hire him as a freelance producer.

The next step in JL’s professional career invariably led him to begin his own Production Company, Foreseen Future Productions. With new independence, JL began his work as a professional producer working with up-and-coming artists. At age 24, JL would be a college graduate with his own production company and steady local work to look forward to. However, JL’s humble beginnings would not allow him satisfaction in mediocrity.

After having his local endeavours recognized before he had planned, JL continues to write and sell instrumentations, produce artists, and collaborate with prominent West Coast figures. Artists JL has worked on tracks with include: Okay City, Solitair, Shad, Sound Improvement, Exaduz, Game Nation, D.A.B, Conway, and Kelly P. JL is looking to place his name upper echelon of hip-hop by letting his music do the talking.
