The Gryson Orchestra was born some years ago as the first steps towards a more serious side of music making for me. Making music was more of a hobby, but as I grew I realized music was the only thing I could see myself doing. Making music has helped me not only as a creative outlet, but also as a sort of meditation and way to express what is inside of me.
Why this name?
I remember when I was calling the band "Atterware", but I didn't like it. I was thinking one night in bed that I should call it "The ______ Orchestra", but I needed a name to fill in the gap. As I was falling asleep, a name popped into my head, and that's what I decided to fill the gap with. The next morning, I changed the name of the band on the websites I was currently using to promote my music to "The Gryson Orchestra". Gryson is the mask I made by painting a plain white mask with black nail polish. I made the mask as a symbol of emotions held inside, but now that I have gotten rid of the mask, I think I'll reclaim the title Gryson as another entity. I have always been fascinated by the subconscious, as it is like a side of you you never knew could exist; Information you never knew you held within you. Gryson is my subconscious, as your subconscious is like a whole different person. Its an entity of its own, constantly lurking just behind your eyes.
Do you play live?
I did play live a few times, and the highlight of playing for me was the first time. I played "Revive" and "Strange Things" at a local open mic. Another few special moments for me were getting back on stage after messing up really bad a fer times from being so nervous. Its a lovely challenge.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It helps independent artists and signed artists a hella-lot. Not only does it create a voice for musicians, but it also allows us to get our music to the world like never before.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If it means I can live the life I want and give my family all the things they ever desired, then yes.
Band History:
The band is the solo works of Alex Figiel. End.
Your influences?
For this project, I think It would be safe to say that I draw from electronic mainly. One of my biggest influences would have to be Trent Reznor, but I can also say I draw a lot of influence from bands like Aphex Twin and Squarepusher. I have various other influences for this project, and try to make each song unique in some way.
Favorite spot?
I like to hang out with my friends and play music. Sometimes we go out to the bars, but not too often.
Equipment used:
I use my laptop, computer programs, and sometimes a guitar.
