Why this name?
Eugene(my brother), choose the name from SHAKKA ZULU of the, ZULU TRIBE in South Afica , My brother Eugene picked out the name for his dance group in 1973, Since we were born in Africa he said" he wanted a Strong African Postive name, When i joined his dance group in 1977(The Shakka Dancers),i started to use the stage name jon-e-shakka, My brother and i for five years in the late 70's, and early 80's ,toured as the Shakka brothers, (performing and touring with artist such as, Celin Dion, Claude Dubois, Nanette Workman, Boule Noire, Rene Simard, PatsyGallant...
Do you play live?
YES we do lots of shows in Canada/Ottawa area, most of our shows are in the Festivals, and i have perform regulary for 18,000 fans at the Corel Center,and the Ottawa 67s, and at Schools.( My best moments are always when the show is on time and i get to sleep in my own bed. I HATE BEING AWAY FROM HOME. "You know what i mean eh!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It changes it for, artist like myself to keep on keepin on..give us more control of our rhythms to be patient...and TO BE! N NOT TO BE....
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Only,if the terms of the Publishing and Distrubuting/Promotion points were in order,and what kind of up front $$$$..you know what i mean...

THE ELECTRIFYING JON-E-SHAKKA

Jon-E-Shakka, a native of Ghana, West Africa (the Ashante Tribe), came to Canada in 1967 and is a self-taught Dancer, Singer, Musician and Songwriter!!
At the age of seventeen, when his dream of being a Professional Hockey Player did not seem to be materalizing (yet?!), this natural-born Innovator, decided to go into the entertainment business! He began his entertainment debut as the opening act, for the SHAKKA DANCERS (his brother, Eugene and two sisters:Therese and Patsy)!!
In the seventies, Jon-E become part of the family act: THE ELECTRIFYING SHAKKA DANCERS, who created the electrifying and unique Dance Form, called DAZZ!!
Jon-E presently teaches DAZZ at local Schools and Community Centres. It is a combo. of: AFRO-RHYTHM, SAVAGE JAZZ, MIME, ROBOTICS, STREETDANCE, and ACROBATICS!!
THE ELECTRIFYING SHAKKA DANCERS won many Dance Awards and performed many times, on a variety of Television Shows!
In 1984, Jon-E released a single, under Sizzle Records, entitled: SHAKE YOUR PANTS, which hit TOP 40, in Montreal and in Mexico!!
Jon-E-Shakka is a name not to be forgotten... he is a Professional who has proven himself world-wide!! Instantly capturing audiences with his creative blend of style, TECHNIQUE and GRACE, he continues to fascinate people of all ages, with a creative combination of: Imagination, Dance and Music, from the past, present and future, releasing a HIGH-ENERGY SHOW, from beginning to end!
Jon-E-Shakka is an illustration of the power and stamina, gained and refined only after many years of experience! A moment is well-spent in seeing a master portray an EXPLOSION of energy, resulting from hard work, time and effort, made to look so BEAUTIFUL!!
His charisma and open, pleasant, personality appeal to all and it is easy to see why his audiences have no problem forming a great rapport with him!
Jon-E-Shakka currently devotes much of his time to children's projects, such as: Community Fun Days, Teaching DAZZ Classes and performing in Festivals and SpecialEvents.
He also keeps busy, performing monthly, at the Vox Lounge; Recording; Choreographing and promoting his NEW CD:
