Nekomi is a final name based from the previous names.

From the top is the latest and to the bottom is the old names I picked back in the past:

- Nekomi <-- final artist name
- iNeko
- iCat
- DJ Cat
- dj_JanX
- JanXaudio
- DJ Tokyo <-- existed first after I was giving my own thoughts
- DJ Yap <-- named baptized by me to my fave English Literature teacher in High School.

Before I became solo (with all the loops made from the softwares I chose), I was involved with a band named "1 Hour is Not Enough!" and "The Rejects".

I am basically their drummer (supposedly the bassist but I don't bass around).

History:

The first name came up was "The Rejects" which is a base name from "All American Rejects" and we were baptized that way due to the fact we get dumped by a lot of girls. We practiced songs which titles were "Fool", "Away", and "Bestfriends Forever".

Fool is a looped song. So, it doesn't have any final lyrics.

Away is a hip hop beat song. Composed on the drums with the use of a snare and a floor tom only.

Bestfriend Forever is an acoustic song.

Mebers of "The Rejects":

- Jan Duarte (me) as drummer
- Marc Samson as lead guitars/ bass
- Maher Arakama as secondary lead guitars, lead guitars, vocals

Later on, during the college life in 2008 (I was a freshmen that time) there was an event called Battle of the Bands. We joined in and kept on practicing until it becomes perfect in the beats. At the final day, another band merged with us due to their drummer called in sick.

So, for 1 hour, we practiced all the songs we were playing (including the other band's songs) and it was not enough till the time was for the battle.

And we are baptized as 1 Hour is Not Enough.

Members:

- A.R (lead guitars/Vocals)
- Nash (Vocals)
- Jun Jun (bassist)
- Marc (Bassist)
- Jan (which is me) (drums)
- Maher (vocalist)

The Songs played:

- Fool
- Away
- Bizarre Love Triangle
- With You

After that, we disbanded and return back to our original brand; The Rejects.

I went away from the best friends of mine for the while and started on making loops with specific softwares I am using right now.

I even revived back the song that Maher composed and made it into a techno and under the brand name; iNeko.

During that day, I slowly found something interesting since it's growing attention to me. So, I dug into Music Production sites and searched some useful and convenient softwares.

Later on, I revived songs of the 1980's to present time and let it go vocal-less. If ever there's a perfect Voice Synth (Vocaloid), I would let it sing that song I want.

List of songs:

Victory Waltz by OMD
Pandora's Box by OMD
Jealousy by Pet Shop Boys
What Have I Done To Deserve This? by Pet Shop Boys
Losing My Mind by Pet Shop Boys
One More Time by Daft Punk
Human After All (experiment only) by Daft Punk

And that December 2008, I created my own song with the available presets on the software I was using. The title was "OneTwoThreeFour". It's a little experiment I made and kept refining it (including the other song I revived).

This month... May 2009... I changed my own Artist name to Nekomi. The name was based on an anime show titled Ah! My Goddess, which has a fictional college or university name; Nekomi Institute of Technology.

I have also made new songs and samples. And also renamed the title of OneTwoThreeFour to 1234 since it's a short title.

Tracklist for the album "Beta" (not complete and final)

1. 1234 2009 (Sample)
2. 1234 2008 (Full)
3. Club Beats
4. Club 1234 (Combination of Club Beats and 1234 2009)

(rest of the songs yet to be announced)

So, if you like to listen to my songs... You are free to take them here only at SoundClick.

Peace.
Why this name?
For a band, it came from my best friend Maher.

For my artist name, it's based on history names listed in the introduction.
Do you play live?
I played live once in 2008 at Battle Of The Bands in my hometown in college.

No. I didn't like it. What I didn't like was the drums. It was incomplete but I was able to coupe with it.

Special moments? Was winning the money and paid off our debt to a local music house in where we practiced for 1 hour.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
MP3 leads to piracy of course. Usually, MP3 is another file format that wasn't supposed to be out during year 2000 since it increases the piracy rate. Now, iTunes has the original brand of songs while LimeWire, has the shared infected files to be able to hi-jack the computer.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If only they like my music. But I rather publish it on the internet until they will learn to like the music. Like the quote from the movie; "Are We Done Yet?"... "It gets uglier before it gets prettier."
Band History:
October 2008 to present: The Rejects <-- Band
October 2008 only: 1 Hour is Not Enough <-- Band

December 2008 to May 2009: iNeko <-- solo

May 2008 to present: Nekomi <-- solo
Your influences?
Daft Punk for the electronic music and their album; Discovery.

Pet Shop Boys' Chris Lowe for the Computer generated music (as shown on TOTP's song Suburbia. A synthesizer/keyboard attached to an old computer).

OMD's Andy McCluskey's Bass skills and Paul Humpreys' keyboard skills

most pop songs that were popular back in 1995 to year 2002
Favorite spot?
My only home town.
Equipment used:
A Pentium 4 Computer and a 1975 Yamaha Electronic Keyboard for tone purposes only.

My computer's quite old but you'll never know how durable is this computer.
Anything else...?
Well... Once I made a few more songs for "Beta"... Most of them will be sample and full songs like Club 1234.
