Our sound is a convergence of southern melodic beats with northern wordplay and west coast style. This is hip-hop with true identity. We took the best parts of the old and the new and created something fresh and different. We go against the grain bringing you and acquired taste.
Why this name?
We were formerly known as the Diamond Funk Clique, but we never really connected to that name. Town Drive is short for Jamestown Drive the street were we grew up.
Do you play live?
We are rappers, so we don't use live instruments like most. We definitely would love to. We hope to have that experience in the future.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It gives everybody an opportunity to get out there, and it takes control away from the record companies and gives it back to the artist .
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Defenitely but it has to be the right deal. The internet makes bargaining for the artist a lot easier when signing deals. If we are successful on our on it lets the record companies know we don't need them.
Band History:
The Diamond Funk Clique aka Town Drive consists of three close friends who grew up in poverty in rural South East Georgia. The members are O-Dawg, J. Paul Getty, and DotBoy. The group was formed accidentally as a result of getting together rapping and venting their frustrations about the obstacles that society had placed before them. They soon realized that they actually had a gift and a story to tell. Most rap newcomers strive to imitate and emulate those who are successful in the genre, but these guys have an identity all their own. They remain true to their dirty south heritage while at the same time travel a different lane in hip-hop. From music production, song concept, and well thought out articulated rhymes the Diamond Funk Clique is a genuine rare find.
Your influences?
We beleive that rap music has become a cliche'. The lyrics that were once the main focal point are now over looked. We are difinitely dirty south in style, but we focus hard on lyrics. We are also more musical and melodic on our tracks than most rappers.
Favorite spot?
Obviously our favorite city is our own Douglas, Georgia, but we show love to Valdosta, Albany, and the ATL.
