The Andy Bowie Quartet played for around 9 years at the Elm Tree pub in Cambridge every Sunday, and moved a year last May to the Cricketers pub across the road. We have now moved again, still on Sundays, to the Clarendon Arms, Clarendon Street. We play straight ahead, sax-led modern jazz, trying to keep our repertoire fresh by playing rarely played tunes as well as standards. We also play functions of many kinds.
Your influences?
Everyone from the mainstream to modern jazz tradition, from Coleman Hawkins and Ben Webster, to Charlie Parker, Dexter Gordon, Sonny Rollins, John Coltrane, and Wayne Shorter. Pete is very influenced by Bill Evans, and Derek by the amazing range of music he plays from folk rock, to Bartok and Stravinsky.
Anything else...?
Our regular gig, entry free is the Clarendon Arms, Clarendon Street, Cambridge, every Sunday 8.30 to 11. The recordings on this site are recent, but low-fi, though they give a sense of how the band sounds.
