Why this name?
Pleasure Addicts™ ... its a contradiction in a way and, in another way it's not. It all depends on your perspective. Different people get pleasure out of different things - 'the good, the bad and the ugly'-(applying equally to people or whatever it is that they 'get off on'). Be it 'Sex,Drugs Rock & Roll', Dangerous sports, Going to work??? ,and that's just the tip ....of an iceberg!
An 'Addict' (if your an optimist) is a fan; an enthusiast; a devotee maybe; And (if your a pessimist) an addict is dependant; reliant; weak-willed. This could go on AND on...point is it's it's subjective, it's all about perception, opinion and acceptibility, and that's the definitve truth! And so emerges the human dileamour: Is a fact merely an opinion that has yet to be disproved? : note it IS a question and not a statement.
Slightly deep ? Maybe, but you read it all didn't you?

Do you play live?
Played many gigs several years ago, got bogged-down with careers.
-in rehearsal and studio and work.
And just kicking off our own LABEL Autonomous Resistor Ltd (based in Scotland), with a somewhat different approach than just making as much money as possible.

How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet WILL make music more accessible, and hopefully at reasonable cost. We think it WILL provide/increase the amount of choice available to global audiences. Record companies and retail outlets NOT responding appropriately will go under. Cost to produce against selling price should be made clear to potential purchasers.
Music should not be sold on an exclusive basis (like a perfume). Lower pricing will reduce the motivation to clone/replicate/copy etc call it what you will. Simplistically, the ability to download and burn (or play) goes a long way to reducing distribution costs. Solid media distribution may still be needed but the volumes of sales are really going to come from internet distribution. Thats where the market is. Its time to change! (take heed Majors) Get your act together.
[ Sept 2004 ]
We are pretty certain that the dinasours in the established "music trade" woke up to some extent, download charts came into being in the UK around the begining of September 2004. Unfortunately although the download facility is now accepted as 'the way' forward the prices being charged for downloads have been reduced marginally the " net effect" ( pun intended ) is an increase in the profit margin per sale to the established/controlling organisations.
All that is required now is a fair price reflecting the substantially lower distribution costs.
Yeah yeah, the record companies say its the only means of recovering their investment in artists but.......what proportion of the cost is Purely Promotional/hype/and image? What fraction is used in the production? An informed estimate is
100:1...so why pay for a record company to sell us/you the music. "The promotional image" comes with the deal even if its not wanted...great choice & value for money (NOT).
There are more changes coming see below for info on DRM. BBC report on Digital Rights Management (opens in a new window).
And a Further development in the UK, although we dont fully agree with all of it. BBC report on Carbon Silicon (opens in a new window).
Increased accessibility is the key. Use of an appropriate Creative Commons license can provide greater access and distibution. (but check out your economics first).
And yet more evidence of independence encroaching on the domain of the established labels. BBC report on Sway Dasafo (opens in a new window).
Change is acknowledged by "The BIG four", BBC report on how the Internet is changing the music business

DRM enters through the backdoor? An example of corporate responsiblility, and honesty maybe?
DRM DEVELOPMENT:: BBC report on Sony Hidden Copy Protection
(opens in a new window).
This 'Stealth' DRM exits, probably because Sony introduced it without informing anyone,& thus Microsoft achieve the "moral high ground". So, did you buy a BMGSony CD in the states recently? And who can You trust?

Badly thought out or what? The BMG Sony planning, innovations and deployment department probably need a change of staff, maybe employ someone who can see beyond just the short term $$$ sign. A new genus of Spyware cloak is now released for all and sundry to mutate and perfect. Lets hear it for BMG Sony winners of the " shooting yourself in the foot contest" and last place in the "contributions to internet development contest".DRM Development:: BBC report on Sony Hidden Copy Protection (XCP)software(opens in a new window).
And the Sony supplied removal tool flawed, well done again! DRM Development:: USCERT report on Sony (XCP)software Removal tool
