Epic Props is a diligent lyricist who's embedded within the Hip-Hop culture and has a keen ear for good music.
Why this name?
The 1906 San Francisco earthquake was an event of epic proportions. Thats how I feel my birth in Hip-Hop was and still is.
Do you play live?
At the moment I'm working on setting up a few gigs around Washington.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think that the internet has changed the game and has really forced artists to step up their grind. It's a bitter sweet relationship with the industry. Leaks are a f***ing hazard because they take away the allure of an artists projects. But online promotion has been a huge benefit for the artists reputation and has given labels a chance to see more then just an artists demo.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I would definately sign with a major, but considering the climate of the industry right now, the contract would have to be good.
Band History:
All things happen for a reason and whenever God see's fit. I was born and raised in Cali and brought up in the Bay Area. I represent the city of San Francisco and don't make hyphy music. Not that I don't occationally put on a thizz face when out having a good time with my niggaz, but it just ain't the type of music that I make. My music roots are versatile but mainly consist of soul, jazz, and the blues. Lyricism is a skill that I've developed through my years as an emcee and is sumthin I continue to work on. I don't bullshit with my music and can collab with anybody who is as passionate about their craft as I am.
Your influences?
Too many to fully put but a few are: Fugees, UTD (Urban Thermo Dynamics), DMX, Richie Rich, Luniz, Wu Tang, Outkast, Goodie Mob, Scarface, Organized Konfusion (Prince Po & Pharoah Monch), Lords of the Underground, A Tribe Called Quest, Lost Boyz, Red Man, EPMD, Method Man, Dogg Pound, Ludacris, Twista, 2pac, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Cypress Hill, WC, MC Hammer, Trick Daddy, JT Money, Juvenile, Talib Kweli, Big Tymers (Mannie Fresh & Birdman), Canibus, Kurupt, Eminem, Planet Asia, E-40, Mos Def, LL Cool J, KRS One, Brotha Ali, Self Scientific, Mac 10, Mac Mall, Too Short, Three Six Mafia, Busta Rhymes, UGK, Jay-Z, Styles P, Jadakiss, Zion-I, Hieroglyphics, Wordsworth, Jean Grae, MC Lyte, Notorious B.I.G., 8ball & MJG, and a whole lot of other artists.
Favorite spot?
There's no place like home and Frisco is by far my favorite stomping ground. I've been staying in the Northwest (Washington) for a few years now and Tacoma & Seattle really got it poppin. Shout out to Portland too.
