When i was 15 i got tired of the music being played on the radio. So i decided id get a little creative and take my little boombox with a built in mic and a toy dj with preset beats and create my own music. It wasnt appropriate for lyrics, but i liked what came out. lol
I was in treatment at Dakota House in aberdeen, sd locked away cause my mother didnt want to take care of me. What else was i to do? I was always drawing, reading harry potter books, and listening to music. One day, i was insulted for my music and i ended up quitting music for 2 years. Yet when i turned 17, a guy named Fat Cat (musician name) (he's on reverbnation.com) (Check my page @ www.reverbnation.com/malibujayhawkins) Brought in his acoustic guitar and started playing. I became inspired and i asked him what drives him and he told me his heart.
So went and bought my first acoustic guitar and he taught me how to play. Then as i got into it, i went a bought an electric guitar. Also Fat Cat taught me that. I recorded all my tracks on to an mp3 player made by Creative (TM) that had a built in mic untill someone stole it. Then as the years went on i had a Q4 samson performance mic, a concertmate keyboard, and a double tape deck. Then a computer with a headphone mic. Then an upgrade to a Q6 performance mic, Same concertmate keyboard, a candy apple red electric guitar(later got stolen), and a 4 track tape recorder. Then i decided id take it up a notch. I bought a computer, mixcraft 4, and a headphone mic. Then i got into it more. Still using the same computer, i went and bought a new guitar, a tube condenser mic (used the foam from the case it came with to filter reverb), a pop filter, Got a keyboard from a friend, got t-racks, a new amp, a pair of sony studio moniter headphones, got 12 inch optimus speakers, a punch subwoofer, a technical pro 3,100 watt amp, a behringer mixer (2 mic pre amp), Reaper recording software, installed a creative live hd soundcard, got the auto audio mastering system, t-racks high end mastering system, got reason 4 then upgraded to reason 5, and set my music all over the web. Now it is made possible just to google Malibu Jay Hawkins just to check out my music and what i have been up to. wow. thats alot of work. I have been doin music for 8 years and i learned alot along the way like mastering, mixing, promoting, lyrics, vocals, piano, keys, beats, song structure, guitar, and just keepin it real.
So heres the truth and nothin but the truth. I created M-records when i was 18 to back me up, then i changed it to Saxa Records Studio Productions and now im staying as an indie artist. Keepin true to the love of music im dedicated to. I tried doing other occupations in my life, but music seems to be the only thing im best at. (the haterz disagree, i say dont be an industry bi***.) pretty much as i said it. lol Do u, dont sound like everybody else, just be u and stay true to what u do. This is the meaning of saxa records. Just like when the jazz man plays that saxophone. :)

Why this name?
When i was at Dakota House, i would sit in my bed and draw, i decided id look in a dictionary. i found the malibu ram. and i thought, "well, i want a name that will stick when i turn 18 cause i didnt want to remember my past" so malibu for the ram, cause i wanted to ram every problem out of my way and get rid of the negative people and comments, two for my favorite bird in which is the blue jay, and three for my favorite skateboarder (Tony Hawk).
Do you play live?

How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Well, theres alot more talent online than on the radio. The old industry as i wanna call it is failing. The indie artist have more to offer than the music that we would hear on the radio about the same old boring topics. Yet the internet is the best way to promote music and its the hardest way to rise to the top cause everybody is doing it. So who cares who stands out. Why not just be happy theres other talented artists out there waiting to be heard and get them heard asap? The music industry like the main one in fact is universal productions. They are just strait up critics. They dont care about the music on the internet and yet there is so much talent and only one lifetime. To them, its all about the money, the sound, not the lyrics, or the heart thats put into it. So to my opinion, i feel they make us look like a waste of time and that were not worth anything. So i decided it is time to take the online industry and show them heart. Saxa Records Studio Productions has heart. I only charge 50 bucks per song. for a full master. they charge thousands. Yet the reason why i charge so cheep is because i want to make it affordable for professional quality, because im putting in my time and my effort to get them heard all over the web. and that is included in the package deal for $50. now selling music online is difficult. theres alot of people who will rip u off. I say fix the errors (soudclick) or just dont post ur songs up for sale. sell them locally if u need a lil extra money. yet if ur like me with no sales, but a great talent, then its like, back to the dirt jobs. Then u feel like ur music wasn't worth the time and effort. Yet the internet makes it also hard for people to get heard because there are so many artists and some people wont even give us the time and day, unless there usher, or some artist on the radio. So radio play is a dominant still in the universal productions main branch of the industry. The internet is just a small chip. we gotta do more. check out more independent artists and their talents. Dont sign to a label, start your own.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I would not. The labels have a two face to their agenda. Nuff Said.
