About the song
This is the MUSICAL RESULT of a real NIGHTMARE experience I had when I was just 19 years old, living in Indianapolis, Indiana at the house that I grew up in, a little house with blue shutters and white frame...I was in the living room, seated at the piano, when a huge thunderstorm hit, late at night, close to midnight as I recall...it was very very dark outside, and all of a sudden, a lightning bolt hit close to the house, with a huge explosion of thunder, that was so very scary, and very threatening to me...I was terrified by the closeness of this incident, and I immediately responded by playing the piano late at night, with the osciallating opening musical phrase that was to become the "ostinato" pattern of this incredible rock and classical rock song that I was about to create, in response to the scary environment I found myself in during the Storm...the wind was blowing very fast, and the thunder continued...it was as though I was in the middle of an Alfred Hitchcock horror movie...so it took me about a half hour to write the music for this song, and then I wrote the lyrics in about a half hour afterwards, putting the lyrics to the music I had just composed, at the very young age of 19...this is my most impressive CLASSICAL ROCK and PROGRESSIVE ROCK song, in terms of POWER ROCK...along with my compositions, NIGHT VISIONS, JETSTREAM THEME, and my two great classical rock songs, ANGEL and CHINESE BABY, which have not yet been recorded...I then proceeded to WRITE OUT the entire ORCHESTRATION for this song during the next year, with 8 trumpets, multiple power keyboards including CLAVINET, bass guitar, solo fuzz bass, two drummers, about 12 percussionists, and 6 men and 6 women singers and vocalists, who sing TWICE in the recording studio, to "become" a mixed choir of 24 singers! This song of mine was world-premiered in Muncie, Indiana at Ball State University by the University Singers of Ball State University, at the SPEC 72 (Spectacular) music show in Emens Auditorium in MARCH 1972, around the time of my 21st birthday (March 30th), before a combined crowd of about 6400 people, who sad totally AWESTRUCK by what they witnessed...their jaws dropped open, they were in a state of shock! I had a strobe light show with pulsating throbbing video light show going on during the performance, which I directed by playing and directing from a Steinway grand piano (9 foot) behind the University Singers...again, I was the arranger and orchestrator, and the director of the instrumentalists during this performance at Ball State University...the music review of my song was given in March 1972 in the Ball State Daily News newspaper...it said my music was totally "INCREDIBLE"...you be the judge! Listen up, and let me know your reaction and opinion, too! Feel free to write a comment on this website and on my other major music website in Europe, at BESONIC.com/johndavidthomas in Germany! Thanks! Have a super incredible day!! Sincerely, JOHN (JOHN DAVID) Thomas, in the USA
Lyrics
Take me on your head--
I know I'm dead--
But I don't care--

Lead me through the STRAIGHTS--
The PEARLY GATES
Are waiting for me--

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh,
DEATH of ROCK and ROLL
How could you be such a DRAG???

(musical interlude)

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Death of ROCK and ROLL
You turn me ON,
Like a WET PAPER BAG--

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

(conclusion of song by large orchestra)
