JOHN DAVID THOMAS
Hi, I'm John, currently living in Brooklyn, New York (New York City, NY USA)...I just moved here from mid-town Manhattan, New York City on August 19, 2009 from St. Luke's Roosevel Hospital in Manhattan at 1000 10th Avenue, seventh floor, where I lived 5 months since mid-March 2009 (Manhattan is my favorite city in the USA), after living in southern California again for about eight months this time around in Hollywood, Los Angeles, and Santa Monica each day there and also later in Studio City (where movies are made) and North Hollywood (which is super conservative, I found out) and the greater LA area...from Aug 10, 2008 - March 17, 2009, when I bought a Greyhound bus ticket, one way, to NYC from L.A....3500 mile bus trip!....to Manhattan... my current residence is Brooklyn, NY (also in New York City, one of the five burroughs here, a city of 8-1/4 million people at present)...my PHYSICAL APPEARANCE is DIFFERENT NOW from my photo here of me, taken in the summer of 2006 in Modesto, California by my Aunt Judy Ewbank at 712 Strathmore Drive, her house there where I lived five weeks...she is a librarian at the Modesto Library there on the west coast....I now have a CLEAN SHAVEN FACE and top of my head is bald and I have short hair now, and sometimes, I wear reading glasses...I'm supposed to have BIFOCAL glasses for the past 20 years, but they keep breaking and I dont have money to buy new $ 100 glasses each time, so I get the "cheapie" ones at drug stores like RITE AID and CVS and WALGREENS etc. So if you see a guy with a clean shaven face who has my credentials and who plays piano and keyboards and all of my most famous music, that mean he is "me"....also, I belong to ASCAP and Mensa and am in the current editions of "WHOS WHO IN AMERICA" and "WHOS WHO IN THE WORLD" and my bio page by Marquis Whos Who can be seen online at: www.marquiswhoswho.net/johndavidthomas . My photography, some of which is famous, can be seen online at www.ONEMODELPLACE.com by my company name, under "Photographers" as: "John David Thomas Photography" here in NY. New York is much friendlier than the southern California area was for me last time around for me from Aug 10, 2008 - March 17, 2009 this past year when I was living on the west coast again....I was living about 8 months in Los Angeles, Santa Monica, Hollywood, North Hollywood, Studio City, and the greater L.A. area, including photo trips to Pacific Palisades and Malibu where the rich and famous live and the celebs...however, I went through lots of "hell" in southern California with "SMALLVILLE" conspiracies in towns and even in L.A., I was told by "Mondo" there that I am "blackballed for life" in Los Angeles (Blacklisted) and I have "no future there in L.A., as far as making money goes, etc...according to Mondo, who I was told by a guy who knows him named Matthew, in Hawthorne CA, that Mondo is an informant for the LA County Sherrif's Dept....Mondo admitted he set me up multiple times and committed multiple illegal ENTRAPMENTs against me (that is totally illegal, even by law enforcement people or FBI...that get anything he says thrown right out of court in a court case....plus, he told me I had done nothing illegal.......he betrayed my friendship I thought I had with him, since he told me he was my friend for life and all this stuff...a big lie....Mondo told me after spying on me for ten months, that "You have done nothing illegal or criminal, but THEY think you have....they are out to get you....don't help them...." well, anyway, I was the victim of theft many times there...still, I plan to go back someday to California, but not to the "bad places" (two Hollywood cops told me I am "banned from Hollywood and not allowed to be there or else I will go to jail and also they threatened to murder me if I did not get out of Hollywood right away, last February 2009, chasing me down Vine Street, where I was living "on the street" at the time, after living shortly at the Gilbert Hotel there and Hollywood Vine Hotel and so on....I had zillions of bad things happen to me on the west coast, due to my parents interference in my life and my father, enemy number one, telling lies about me out there, and other things....I love the "good vibes" of New York City, so I plan to make this my primary home for now...I am living in Brooklyn, NY now...I have a roommate, named "Vince", he is an older man, I don't get to pick my roommate, they get assigned where I am living for now.......see my contact info....my websites I manage and am the domain owner of are: www.johndavidthomas.com www.johndavidthomasphotography.com www.johndavidthomasproductions.com (the last one is not updated with address info)...I just bought a brand new super PROFESSIONAL digital camera, a NIKON D 60...a $ 600 digital 10 MP camera SLR with interchangeable lenses...I am trying to get my "life back" that has been stolen from me, as a Christian girl in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana said to me last summer when I was back there at 2704 Central Court, Indianapolis, IN 46280-1930 USA in Carmel, Indiana suburb again, temporarily living for 2-1/2 months with my relatives...my father only threatened me three times in that time period, instead of his usual more frequent threats against me, because of his extreme jealousy, which he admitted to;....I told him "I cant help it if I am world famous...don't blame me...."..I am WORLD FAMOUS CELEBRITY AND MUSICIAN AND PHOTOGRAPHER, COMPOSER, ROCK STAR of the past in Indiana and Arizona (JETSTREAM 1979-1983 in Central Indiana/Indianapolis/Kokomo/Carmel and DEE DEE RYAN at the LONGHORN SALOON, Apache Junction, Arizona from Sep. 1984 - May 1986, where I played keyboards (7 of them: Oberheim 4 voice synth $ 5700 from Vic Zinn Music of Noblesville INdiana, I bought it from Doug Babb in 1978 with two loans that took me 3 years just to pay for my synth....I used it on my songs and recordings of "IN YOUR HEART" 1983 disco song I wrote and recorded at 700 West Studio in New Palestine, Indiana on Highway 40 east of Indianapolis at Mo Whittamore's studio, relative of Jim Sanders my first bass guitar player on my early recordings and songs in Bloomington, Indiana and Indianapolis at GILFOY SOUND STUDIO in Bloomington, Indian
Why this name?
I was born with my bandname!!!.
Do you play live?
I don't perform live concerts at present...I used to play solo piano at major resorts in Scottsdale, Arizona and north of there from October 1986-May 1987, at The Clarion Inn/McCormick's Ranch Resort and also at The BOULDERS Resort, north of Scottsdale...I liked the jobs themselves...it is great being your own boss!! I had special moments at The Longhorn in Apache Junction, Arizona from 1984-1986, where I played keyboards (5 of them!!) for Dee Dee Ryan, the #1 nightclub singer of Phoenix, Arizona at that time! And also, loved it at the resorts when a group of young people came into the Clarion Inn and requested that I play "IN-a-GADA-da-VIDA" by Iron Butterfly on the piano for them...which I did with great delight!! I loved the music of the 1980's which I performed so often during that time period on keyboards and piano, in both Arizona and also Indianapolis, Indiana earlier (during my "JETSTREAM" days)...I loved recording in the pro recording studios in Indiana and in Scottsdale, Arizona in the 1970's and 1980's...now, I just record in a digital studio in the basement of my residence (1991-2002) in the Indianapolis/Carmel, Indiana area, just 1 block north, and 1 block east of "98th & Keystone"...
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It can have a radical effect, I believe...it makes it possible for many more musicians and composers to get their music "out to the public, and to the world, at large" than was previously possible...it also opens a new market for all the record labels...I think it's great for everyone!!
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes, if I'm guaranteed national and worldwide distribution, major national promotion, and artistic control...but I'd like to also remain on the "Internet", as well, to sell my music both the "conventional" way and the "new, Internet" way!!
Band History:
JOHN DAVID THOMAS (John) was born in March 1951 in a small midwestern college town of Muncie, Indiana, the first-born of 4 children, and the son of musical parents...his mother was a graduate of Indiana University School of Music with a degree in classical piano (B.A. in 1947)...she played the Grieg Piano Concerto at that time, and studied with the German pianist, Hoffzimmer, who was a pupil of world-famous classical composer, Busoni.
John David Thomas is a lifelong pianist and composer, and played keyboards in rock/jazz/variety bands for 10 years, and began his recording career at age 19 at Gilfoy Sound Studios in Bloomington, Indiana (at which time he first recorded his classical-rock masterpiece, "Death of Rock and Roll" with 8 trumpets, 2 drum kits, multiple keyboards and piano, 2 bass guitars, 24 singers (6 men, 6 women recorded twice), and zillions of percussion instruments!!)
John was offered a national songwriting contract by Tree Publishing Co. in Nashville, Tennessee in 1972, but turned down the offer due to his being required to move to Nashville and drop out of college...something he did not want to do! (The contract was offered by a woman from CBS Records in New York City who moved to Nashville.)
After 5 years of college (2 years at Purdue and 3 years at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana), John received his Bachelor's degree in Music Theory & Composition from BSU in 1976.
He is currently a composer and pianist, who composed new music daily on a Balwin grand piano where he have lived from 1992-2004...he is a solo artist and has also been an arranger/orchestrator of his own original classical, romantic, jazz, New Age, piano, synthesizer, and orchestral music (leaving the option open for future "avant-garde" and dramatic music in the future for movies, TV, and CDs/radio)...John plays pro keyboards such as the Kurzweil K2000 with custom 3rd-party sounds of real instruments (most orchestral instrumental sounds are in this Kurzweil!!)...he recorded several NEW CD's in 2002 and 2003, and has had 10 new CD albums released since 1999 on his own personal CD label: JDT Records, and through the former huge music company and California CD label: "MP3.com", which was the manufacturer of the CDs. His CD albums ("Spirit Music", "Desires of the Heart", "From Me to You", "Musical Essences", "The Journey of Life", "Music for Bethany" and "The Avant-Garde of John David Thomas") are mostly his new solo piano works, plus "synthesizer" music, and his MIDI/synth "orchestral" music (created "one note at a time, by hand", WITHOUT using a sequencer!!!) All new CDs and compositions of JOHN's have been recorded by him since 1992... They are extremely creative, artistic, multi-faceted, multi-style and very GIFTED compositions of his, he has become PROLIFIC as a composer...they demonstrate the ECLECTIC, MODERN, cosmopolitan, urban complexity of this "present-day COMPOSER"!! (John is a member of ASCAP since 1974, as a published composer, and again with ASCAP since 1987...also a member of A F of M Local 47 in Hollywood, CAlifornia, USA and NARAS (Grammy-awards organization) and RMALA (Recording Musicians Association of Los Angeles)...He was admitted to MENSA, the high IQ society in 1983 in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA and has been a member of them for about 20 years...also, he has belonged to the Audio Engineering Society for years. John is currently expanding his career in the arts. He plans to make a "music video" like a music DVD of him as a solo pianist and keyboardist in Hollywood, California later in 2006 or 2007 and also to work with new and current artists and bands in their new CD projects and music videos. He composes regularly and often on the piano where he lives and works. He loves to compose "free form improv art music and mood music", both melodic music and abstract art music. He plans to record much more music on CDs of his for the future, once he gets some new recording equipment and a new computer.

Your influences?
I'm influenced by zillions of composers, songwriters, bands, and musicians!! But to name a few, my music probably is most similar in style to Vangelis, but the classical composers have a strong influence on me, as well as the great rock bands of the 60's, 70's, 80's and so on...classically-speaking, I'm influenced by Stravinsky, Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, Brahms, Sibelius, Debussy, Copland, Xenakis, Pierre Boulez, Webern, Berg, Stockhausen, etc...as far as rock bands of influence, it would be The Beatles and Frank Zappa (2 opposites of each other), and The Who, Fleetwood Mac, Elton John, etc. ...as far as jazz groups, it would be Weather Report, Jean-Luc Ponty, John McLaughlin, and lately, Spyro Gyra...I love MANY groups and MANY composers and musicians!! And MANY styles!
Favorite spot?
So far, it's a tie between Hollywood/Beverly Hills/Los Angeles and New York City, Las Vegas, London, San Francisco, Vancouver, CANADA, and Victoria, British Columbia (west coast of Canada).

Very Inspiring. I love motion picture soundtracks. You are very a talented musician. One thing tho...you write too much, I'm not gonna read all that...who cares? Your stuff is exquisite, don't explain yourself just play, you could probably do a symphony of farts and would be a masterpiece..

Hi John,
Just surfing and found 'Chant for Orchestra'. You really have a talent- it's a very dramatic piece that's also very well structured with a powerful sound. Really very modern sounding, all the more impressive that you say you play every intstrument on the track yourself! Fantastic stuff. It would be great if you had the time to check out our song 'Your life', it's our first single here on SC, all the very best from Tam & the Giants

Mr. Thomas,
My college music teacher Prof. Hoose used your examples to show how intra audible effects/feelings/moods/societal alteration can be acheived through music composition. What a surprise, and a blessing to have the opportunity to tell you directly that I love your work and appreciate what your music does.

Shawn beard should tone it down. Disprespect on a message board is a low blow. I, on the other hand, enjoy the music on this page. I don't ever stop by anybody's page other than hip hop because I usually want those people to listen to my music as well. For some reason I stopped by this page. By the way John, you can go into your band administration and delete that nasty post if you want... Keep up the good work. Peace!

You have too much music on here! I didn't know where to start. I listened to "The Little Prince," First Things First," and "Lamentations III." "Lamentations" was very soothing, and it just goes to show that sometimes simple is better, less is more. You seem to be a very versatile composer. Keep up the great work, and maybe someday when I have a few hours to kill I can listen to the rest of your music!

We can hear the message clearly... The desperation in this piece is immense we felt the desperation...it's like in a dream when your trying to get away from something that's scaring you and your running away in slow motion knowing you can run faster but can't. Nice piece.
