Im an independent artist named Mookie Lock! I been puttin it down for two years consistently so this game aint nothin new to me. Its not too many female rappers in the game, but ima bring em back. Im not tryna be a dude or take the place of a dude; its plenty of room for all of us to shine. I got love for everybody just give my music a chance and show me love back. I like real rap not a lot of commercial music, and I know my real people gon feel me on that.
Why this name?
I been Mookie for as long as I can remember, so when I give you my music I'm giving you me-not some made up persona.
Do you play live?
I love performing. I get this rush on stage and I never want the performance to end. I remember one time I had a little too much to drink before a show and I threw up all down my shirt! But luckily I made it to the restroom and wipe it off before anybody could really tell. I killed that night too by the way!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet has made music more accessible for better or for worse. Now anybody can record music, upload it on the internet and call themselves an artist. This caused the market to be over saturated, which by the laws of supply and demand have made music a really cheap product that people tend to take for granted. When music was a only available as a tangible product in stores (cds, records, tapes) it was a little harder to come by, which is what made it so much more valuable. This is why record companies aren't makin the kind of money they use to make, and they have moved more toward generating immediate sales of a single song through ringtones or downloads as apposed to the album as a whole.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
NOPE. Not unless a major can do something for me that I can't do for myself OR they can do it ALOT better.
