Hi - Gary Peterson here. I sing and play everything on these tracks but it's the compositions that I hope stand out. You can also hear my work with The Nowhere Men on SoundClick.
Why this name?
Gary Peterson is my name. I'm one of those one-man bands, a real showboat.
Do you play live?
I don't play out anymore but it's not out of the question.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It's a digital democracy. You get to hear my stuff.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I'm more interested in having other artists record my songs.
Band History:
I've played in clubs, coffee houses, street corners, garden parties, kindergartens and college campuses off and on since the Summer of Love.
Your influences?
I have many influences, mostly guitarists, including everyone from Bach to Beck. People have said my stuff sounds like the Grateful Dead which surprises me but I'll take the compliment. Ditto Mark Knopfler.
Favorite spot?
Sante Fe, NM or maybe Paris, France - or Detroit (the Paris of southeast lower Michigan).
Equipment used:
My first guitar had a cowboy painted on it. I had a '61 Gibson Les Paul Custom that I traded for my B-25 acoustic during the folk music scare of '68. I also play one of my handmade Peterson acoustics and a Godin electric. The drums are Pearl Exports with Paiste cymbals, a generic bass guitar, AKG dynamic mics into a Tascam DP-01 recorder. Nothing fancy.
Anything else...?
I'm also a visual artist and an author but my first love is music.
