I have to create music. I write and record the music I want to listen to. When I finish an album I give copies away for free. Hopefully someone finds something in it that they think is important too.
Why this name?
Heiligenschein: A ring of light around the shadow cast by a person's head, esp. on a dewy, sunlit lawn, caused by reflection and diffraction of light rays; halo.

Do you play live?
It's been a long time since I've written something that I could reproduce live. The last couple albums have been all about the finished recording.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Through the magic of this fancy new-fangled inter-web you found out about me. And for that, I deeply apologize.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Major labels are bastardizing and completely illegitimating our modern music culture. If I were to closely associate myself with that element, I would run the risk of completely devaluing all of my music.

But if I was in the right mood, I'd yes-man my way into HQ for the contract signing and just burn the f***ing place down.

But seriously, I don't ever perform. Not gonna get signed.
Band History:
Evolution of getting weird.
Your influences?
Nirvana made me want to start writing music. Elliott Smith made me want to write beautiful music. Heavy Metal keeps me honest. People keep me human.

Other influences: open wound orgasms, unrequited love, chemicals, flirting with psychosis, the baffling difficulty of trying to embrace my animal nature in a transcendent way, good whiskey, Russian sacred choral music, being clueless about everything, not sleeping, the subjective hopelessness of "reality". . .

Favorite spot?
In the rain, Kalamazoo College campus, in my car driving (with the tunes cranked, sun out, windows down, rocking out like it's my job), wherever good friends are, blue midnight hookah lounge, with my family, Montie Co-op (E.L.), wrapped in the throes of a genuine hug, underground adventure tunnels (steam-pipe maintenance shafts), tops of parking garages.
Equipment used:
YAMAHA BREAKS YO' FACE! BEST GUITAR! BEST PIANO!

additionally: Ibanez electricity guitar, REMO djembe
Anything else...?
Fight Back.

R.I.P. Elliott Smith.
