play lo-fi play hi-fi  Change My Life
I am a producer, rapper, writer and arranger of Hip Hop that dreams of making a full time career in music. I love music with a deep passion. I love being around it, listening to it, working with it and especially creating it. I represent the struggling middle class and the lower class in the world whose story is undertold or inaccurately spoken. I try my best to put together a nice beat, with meaningful lyrics and a flow that will bring joy to your ears. Some of my songs are serious and will make you think, while others are fun and will make you smile. I try to capture many different emotions in my music and channel them through to relate to my audience. If my song is sad than I hope it makes you relate to the sadness. If my song is angry than it should make you relate to the anger. If my song is fun than it should make you want to have fun. I hope you all enjoy what you hear. Any and all feedback is highly appreciated. I like to hear the truth. Please also check me out at myspace.com/jonnyphiness
Why this name?
My real name is Jonathan and "Jonny" is short for that. Many of my friends call me "Phiness" (Finesse) because they say I finesse everything I do. The name was first given to me originally in the studio working with other artists. Everyone in the studio always said that I have a way that adds finesse to the tracks. Put both together and you have "Jonny Phiness".
Do you play live?
I definitely play live. I am currently looking for some venues to play so if you have any leads or suggestions please shoot me a message. My first show was at a festival in Far Rockaway, NY. Gab J, a fellow rapper and good friend of mine, and I were only there to attend. We saw the performances on stage and decided to ask the DJ if we can rock. He threw on some instrumentals and we rocked the crowd. When we got off the stage everyone was given us respect. It was a great day. I love to be on stage and have people listen to my music. I currently do not have any shows scheduled but will let you know when something is coming up.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet definitely changed the music industry. It is allowing small time artists or artists without the connections necessary to be heard. It allows the artists creativity to reach new levels and to take more control over there own career and develope their own fan base by pressing of a couple of buttons. I think the illegal downloading is excessive but it is great for promotion.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes
Band History:
Jonny Phiness started off as a poet doing spoken words on stage. I loved writing my heart and soul down on paper and sharing it with people. I also started off working with other artists and spending sometime with a small independent label. I started my personal music career freestyling on the corner of the street with a bunch of people from my neighborhood. I eventually decided to start structuring my music in song format and come up with different concepts that I love and hopefully people will relate to. Now I produce beats, write rhymes , rap with swag, arrange with flavor and even coengineer with precision.
Your influences?
Kanye West, Polow Da Don, Stevie Wonder, Nas, Billy Joel, Biggie Smalls, 2Pac, Jay Z, Diddy and Pharrell are my biggest music influences that I can think of off the top of my head. There are also many people that I personally know that influence me a whole lot. A few of them are: Kurt, Carl, Jeff, Gab J, Lenny Ace, Cross Phada, and Wish.
Favorite spot?
I love the vibe in all of Long Island, NY which of course is my home. I also love Manhattan, Harlem, Washington Heights, Queens, Brooklyn, The Bronx, Staten Island, Yonkers and Jersey City. My out of town spots are Atlanta, South Florida, Houston, Austin, Albany and Philadelphia. I can't wait to travel to other cities and see what is up with everywhere.
Equipment used:
I use Reason, Pro Tools, Two M-Audio Key board controllers, an Akai 16 pad controller, a Bitstream, a condenser mic, Fostex monitors & a Macbook Pro at home. I also go to BPM Studios and use there in house equipment.
Anything else...?
I am willing to work with other artists and do whatever it takes to get into this music business. If you can help or know someone that can please shoot me a message or give me a call with the details. Thank you and I hope you enjoyed checking out Jonny Phiness.
