Why this name?
Fresh Off A Breakup initially stemmed from the ups and downs a relationship.I found myself in the middle of breaking up every other week. But, I guess that was a little too personal so I decided to relate it to breaking up with mainstream music, but I have since realized that music is music, and I make all types of music, including whatever is considered mainstream at the time. So really, what I have learned, is that I am Fresh Off A Breakup with anything that is holding me back! Life Divided By Pain= Music!
Do you play live?
As a producer I don't usually play live anywhere, although I do play the piano. Occasionally, if run run into a piano out and about I will put on a little show. I also rap, and have worked with various rappers, singers, producers, and production companies, and between all of us I think we have performed at almost every club in hollywood, and the surrounding Los angles areas. And too many other states to name(Tours). Personally, I don't care for performing.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet allows independent artist to have access to international distribution, producers around the world, and more cost effective marketing tools. That's just a few benefits. However, it did cause a lot of music execs to lose their jobs. A lot of record stores had to close, and a lot of record companies had to close or downsize severely. Overall, I think it's for the best. Everything changes except change.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
It really would depend on what I had to lose. If I had nothing I would be more likely to sign. Five percent of something is better than 100 percent of nothing. Of course, I would negotiate the shortest term possible. On the other hand, if I were bringing in a significant amount of revenue, and our brand was growing at an acceptable rate, there would be no need for us to sign with a label. Although, at that point, we would be willing to partner, or do projects for them.
