Concepts Beats was begun by a talented hip-hop lyricist and producer. At age 13 I started writing my own rap lyrics. Then around the age of 16 I found new light in the form of a microphone. It became my release.. my way to vent stress & anger, as well as my way to express happiness and excitement about personal events that occur throughout my life. After years of recording over other producers instrumentals I came to meet my current producer Doctor Mindbender. From there I continued to write lyrics, only now I had an advantage. I was able to step my game up tremendously. Mindbender, who had an incredible talent on the keys took time to show me around his Alesis 6HD Fusion Keyboard Workstation. I quickly became interested in producing beats on top of just writing verses and hooks. My producer showed me a few scales, taught me a few chords and a year or so later here I am. After getting a bit comfortable on the keys I decided to step my game up even more I was able to get my hands on a M-Audio Axiom 25 Midi Controller Keyboard which I quickly went to work on. Finally I have exclusives to all my own material, still with the help of Mindbender. My music is what I experience and see through my eyes and hopefully other people will be able to feel and relate to my music.
Why this name?
My band's name is actually HiredHands from the label titled, HiredHands Entertainment. HiredHands was started by another aspiring fellow lyricist in the group who goes by the name of Money Mike. I guess I would have to say that we chose the name simply because we're all about putting that work in.
Do you play live?
Currently we do not have anything going on. Mainly because the HiredHands crew is focusing on getting more material finished so once that happens we will be getting into the "Getting Our Name Known" aspect of the industry. Until then it's all work and no play.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet is the hub of getting music heard all over the planet. The best part about it is that there's tons of great sites and internet radio stations all over the web that are willing to help out the "small-time" or "local" artist. Thus resulting in more gratification to the artist as well as a much larger increase in the chance of that artist getting him or herself heard. The internet is a very powerful tool if it is utilized correctly.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Maybe but I have heard a lot of shady things about record labels and A&R's. Everyone is about a dollar these days so it's tough not to get snaked.
Your influences?
All of the older hip-hop artist's had a huge influence on the music I make today. Artist's such as Tupac, Notorious BIG, GrandMaster Flash, Rakim, Dre, Snoop, Big Daddy Kane and many many more. Today's mainstream artist just don't do it for me. The lyrics are incredible but the plot of the songs made now carry no form of substance. Once in a while I'll hear a commercialized artist with something worth listening to. Now, all it's about is getting money, diamonds, girls, cars and so on. Yes I understand that's what the listeners are interested in listening to, but c'mon.. face it, that's not real life!
Favorite spot?
Well I'm from New England so I would have to say one of my favorite spots to hang is Boston. I went up there for a night of partying the end of last year(2008) and had the best time. Everybody is friendly and so laid-back. Also, no matter who you go there with it's next to impossible not to have a great time!
