Glancing Love
NEWS   We will be playing live at Santa's Magical Village December 4th and 5th in San Marcos! More details to come or please go to the calendar on our webpage!

We also want to announce that we had our EP redesigned, it's the same artwork (original hanging on my wall - Rachel) by Theresa, but it's much closer in its reproduction, to the original colors and looks wonderful (we changed the corresponding artwork on this site so you'll be able to see it)!

This time we did a pressing, so we've plenty to offer and it makes a great gift (good since the holidays are almost upon us!)....

We recently played at the Escondido Renaissance Fair (a very favorite place to play!) and the Phoenix Faerie Festival (we think we left a folding chair there! it was a quick visit to Arizona for us, we really just arrived, did our set and took off to get back to San Diego and rest up for our day jobs on Monday!).

Santa's Magical Village will be another opportunity for us, we've really been enjoying playing in a booth space and being able to meet all kinds of new people in the moments in between! We'll have our CDs for sale there, as well as more of Theresa's original Faerie art, she has a set of 4 blank notecards, a different faerie on each with some sets hand-decorated as well. All are printed on parchment cardstock (recycled for those of you who keep track!) using sepia-toned ink.

description
A beautiful video by Essenz Schenker. The music is from duo Glancing Love (Theresa Rochelle-Ross and Rachel Amov).
Our music features the Irish harp, violin, cello, keyboard, whistle and of course vocals. Stylistically themed, Music for A Vagabond Heart; it is a romantic fusion of Gypsy, Celtic, New World and Inspirational songs and instrumentals.
Why this name?
It was an inspiration, a dream and a tribute to one of our favorite bands. Incredible String Band fans will know Glancing Love as a song by that group.
Do you play live?
We do play live, we love to play in Balboa Park's historic Spanish Village, and at the Flower Fields in Carlsbad, we also have the great fortune to play a yearly gig at the Golden Door Spa that is a Labyrinth Walk (very lovely). The most special moment happened this past summer at the Flower Fields when a just married couple came in and had their first dance to our music. The bride was also a violinist and then borrowed Rachel's violin to play a song for her new husband!

Our new favorite thing to do is play at the Escondido Renaissance Fair, we have played for Queen Elizabeth I and her court a few times now and we also have a booth where we play live. Fortunately we are friends with Merlin and he has also enchanted a basket to play our music when we take a break!

Most recently we've performed at the Phoenix Faerie Festival, also great fun!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The lovely thing about the Internet is it makes reaching people all over the world so much easier, we ourselves find this handy in looking up musician friends and music that we are fond of but may no longer have copies that are in good quality anymore! Thankfully so many musicians have been able to transfer vinyl or tape to digital format!
Band History:
We both have played for professionally for a number of years and have completely seperate biographical information as well as the years we played together in a previous group. Our full biographies are posted on our website, and in the meanwhile here is a tidbit bio:

Rachel and Theresa have performed together since 1991 as members of the Celtic Fusion group, The Strange Woods, filling the houses for a wide array of music venues with their wonderful sound.

Now as the duo, Glancing Love, they bring to the fore a more vivid interpretation of their musical passion and experience.

Favorite spot?
Truly there are many beautiful places in the world but we both are happiest when we are with our families! (and of course, we are family to each other in that way of long-time good friends!)
Equipment used:
Lately we have enjoyed playing acoustically with no sound set-up at all! We use a variety of equipment when amplified. In terms of our instruments, again there's a variety of sources, Rachel's violin comes from a local San Diego ship, Classic Bows, and her bow was actually designed by one of the owners of the shop (thank you Greg!). Currently, Theresa plays a Hidden Valley Celtic Harp, and wood whistles by O'Riordan and O'Dwyer. There's more but that's a start!
Anything else...?
During the summer of 2008 we recorded an Extended Play CD featuring 5 songs which can be heard (and downloads purchased) here. If you buy the actual album, we have extensive liner notes as well, and the album can either be purchased directly through us, or through CDBaby. We just redesigned the artwork to reflect the original work more accurately and pressed the CD as well so we are currently converting all digital and actual CD offerings out in the world to the new 2010 edition!

In 2009, we recorded a full-length CD of beautiful Celtic melodies performed on Irish harp, violin, viola, penny whistle, cello, keyboard, guitar, bass and bodhran.

Summer of 2010 saw us in the studio again, but we chose not to push too hard, to keep the delicate balance of music, work, life, family and all and to remain true to exactly the end product we will both be happiest with, so it'll be a little longer yet before we've a new album to announce!
