Offenon is an artist hailing from Elizabeth, NJ. Currently tewnty years old, he has resided in Elizabeth since the age of 3. As a Caucasian/Hispanic, it wasn't easy at times to fit in and this is how he found his calling...Rap. Once he hooked up with "Kevon", the neighborhood friend and person Offenon credits for bringing him up on the Hip Hop culture, it was as though a fire had been started that could not be estinguished. The fire began to die down when the young rapper started High School, figuring there was no future in Rap for him at least he just let the dream slide out of his fingertips but never gave it up completely. He still always had it in him. After about three or four years when Off was a senior in highschool he began to do what started him off(no pun intended) back in seventh grade, making people laugh with freestyles, just for fun at work. His co-workers really liked his style and jokes and after about a year of freestyling every night at closing he finally got the fire burning like never before. In his Freshmen year at college last year he hooked up with another rapper and now friend Luguz through his other friend D.Unknown, the three sat down and began doing raps and freestyles on wax for fun. With the help of incredible ideas from Gambino, you now have "908 Division". Off being the kind of person he is started up his own studio and along with that "Eastwick Records" which sees over "Luguz" and "908 Division", along with CEO Gambino and D.Unknown and DRC as the production team. Big plans in the works for 908 Division,
"908 Division The Mixtape Vol.1" was just released as a promotional piece and will be sold at $5.00 ea. The album includes a total of 21 tracks. A few freestyles, about 14 songs and the Single for the album "You and Me" by Offenon ft. D.Unknown which is getting air play on WKNJ 90.3 as well as some Philadelphia, and New York stations. For information on the Mixtape contact Eastwick Records at Eastwick Records@aol.com
Why this name?
The way that my alias came about is actually funny. I would always freestyle at work for fun or whatever and people always said I was like a switch. I would start off not really making much sense and the freestyle was basically wack for 2 bars or so and then suddenly I was on and focused. So D. was like "Yo, you're the circuit. You're Offenon!" And from then on it's history...
Do you play live?
Well we've been really busy working on the Mixtape and everything but Luguz is working on his Album soon with his single coming out soon and so am I so this summer you'll see me at as many spots as possible, I'll perform at a backyard if you want, whatever gets the word out...
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Well its a really great way to organize yourself and get things in perspective. You don't even have to really leave your house, you can get all kinds of information on everything from how to build a Studio to starting your own Label. Not to mention that promotion on the internet is so effective and convenient...but I'll just leave all that talk to the answer-man, CEO Gambino.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I mean at this point, it's really a question of how easy they would make the transition for me and my crew because I'm used to running the show basically, I mean we run this whole thing ourselves and to sign to a major label would mean changes.
Band History:
See Introduction.
Your influences?
Well I listen to everything, from R&B to country...chill, only the hot issh. LOL. My uncle used to make me listen to Jazz all the time and around the house is a lot of spanish music and Italian music but that doesn't really influence me. Brazilian Jazz is hot, but you can expect a lot of different sounds from my music. DRC and D.Unknown...it's a wrap. My influences are basically a lot of rap, I was really into Ma$e in the past, Biggie, Pac, Eminem is one of my favorite rappers of all time. Nas, Jay-Z, Canibus, LL Cool J, Slick Rick, I could be here all day...
Favorite spot?
Eastwick a.k.a. Liz a.k.a. Elizabeth, Jersy
Equipment used:
Let me quote Luguz during his interview on WKNJ..."WoW". Well let's just put it this way, so I don't spend all day on this list, it's not the ishh you buy at your local Radio Shack...
