PIANORAMA
PIANORAMA is a series of CD albums of acoustic grand piano music composed and performed by Elizabeth Anne Middleton. The music has a classical timeless feeling and is described as very visual, evoking imagery, peaceful and relaxing, and having a healing energy flowing through it.
Why this name?
"PIANORAMA" refers to a panoramic view, using the acoustic grand piano as an artistic medium.
Do you play live?
I play concerts of my original music, and tell stories about the compositions and what inspired them. I've performed throughout the United States.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It has made a huge difference in the way music is marketed and promoted. It's made music more accessible to everyone and easier to hear artists that might otherwise remain unknown or obscure (until they're discovered after their death!!). I like being able to collaborate with artists around the world.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I'm signed with Tantrum Records.
Band History:
I first began writing songs about animals and the natural world. I toured as opening act on a Daevid Allen US tour, using the stage name, "Octavia Neptune." I wrote piano parts to record with the songs, and performed singing and playing an autoharp with harmony voices and piano accompaniments on backing tapes. I then began writing piano music which seemed to come easily perhaps because I studied classical piano for many years. I created "PIANORAMA" as a concert series of my original music. I recorded two albums in Albuquerque, NM, and seven albums at Tantrum Studios, now located in Carpinteria, CA.
Your influences?
Growing up on a farm in the Flint Hills region of Kansas, attuned to nature, the storms in summer, snows in winter, rolling hills, creeks, trees, pastures, wild animals, and vast sky, and being mentored by a family of classical musicians. My music is mostly inspired by the natural world and by the great classical composers. I hear music in my mind most of the time.
Favorite spot?
Hendry's Beach in Santa Barbara, CA; Mt Rainier and the Olympic peninsula in Washington state, western Massachusetts, the Catskills in New York, the Flint Hills of Kansas, the Oregon coast, the wild vastness of northern New Mexico and Colorado, Big Sur in California, Dauphin Island off the coast of Alabama.
Equipment used:
My recording is done on a Yamaha Grand Piano C.S., at Tantrum Studios. I also work on a Yamaha Cp300 keyboard.
Anything else...?
The best thing in life is having friends and family. And we're all one big family.
