My name's Vince, stage name Don V. I'm a Sicilian-American from the Bay Area, where I've lived all over but would have to rep San Francisco if forced to choose. I love hip hop with a passion. If you listen to my songs, you'll hear all different kinds of elements — old school, new school, socially conscious, feel good songs, love songs, battle lyrics, etc. — all blended into my own unique style. I look for the beats and how I'm feeling at the time I hear them to inspire my lyrics. As for my delivery, I can't really compare it to anyone, but I aspire to the Rakim principle of always staying on beat and having each line incorporate something nice, like a metaphor or multi-syllabic rhyme, etc.
Why this name?
In Sicily, Don is the term of highest respect you can call a man. V is my first initial and stands for Vincenzo.
Do you play live?
Haven't performed of yet, but considering it. Hip hop is still just a hobby for me at this point but I've been getting a lot of good feedback.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Internet makes it so everyone can hear anyone's music and consider it almost on the same level. Someone can put me in their iTunes with Lil Wayne and we'll be side by side. Internet will also make the music industry more and more performance drive, since a lot of people don't buy CDs anymore. But, at the same time, it's so much easier to get your name out there, so more people know about you, and more people can buy your shit.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Hell yea. Under the right circumstances and with the right amount of creative license.
Your influences?
I generally like a real smooth sound, like something when Kanye produces for Common, or like a nice Talib Kweli or Zion I track. I'd have to list my musical influences as 2Pac, Nas, Common, Talib Kweli, Zion I, Immortal Technique, Ludacris and then I be feelin some Bay Area artists like Clyde Carson, The Team, Ya Boy, The Frontline and Mistah Fab. I like all different kinds of music (especially my Italian language music), but I don't really have favorite artists in other genres, I just like songs here and there.
Favorite spot?
San Francisco, baby! After that, I love Sicily, of course. Rome is sick, like Italy's New York. Speaking of New York, that sh*** is crackin, too. I love to travel so I have a lot of favorites.
Equipment used:
MacBook and GarageBand baby!
Anything else...?
Check me out. I got a smooth delivery, a nice pitch to my voice, and I always got something interesting to say no matter what the subject of my song is. Good wordplay, good cadence and just overall well-written, well-delivered work.
