play lo-fi play hi-fi  Lay It Down
Known as "F4LIS" (Effortless, something that comes natural without thinking) This female producer has been involved with all aspects of Music since the age of 14. At 14 she worked all summer to be able to afford a set of turntables (Gemini xl-500II) that started it all. Furthermore she was also in the High School Drum-line in Marching Band as well as Concert and Jazz band. Between these obsessions this was fuel for the fire to come. Mastering the turntables and acquiring the rhythms of the cadences the Drum-line instilled in her, she began to further explore her fascination with this new found love. The "Music Generator" for the Play-station 1 began her journey in beat making. F4LIS created music on the Generator that was way advanced and ahead of it's time. Learning how to sample her own sounds and create original tracks from scratch was just a fraction of what she could do. Hailing from Radford a small city in the Southwest part of Virginia she didn't let her location limit her as she soon traveled to South Carolina after High school graduation in 2002. Myrtle Beach is a melting pot for Hip Hop and other genres alike. She began to expand her knowledge by unexpectedly meeting Engineer/Producer "Jay Burgess" who took her under his wing and began teaching her the life changing essentials of the Music Industry. F4LIS embarked on collaborations with local artist and upgraded her arsenal of professional equipment. Joining forces with local artist also landed her air play on 98.5 Myrtle Beaches Hip Hop radio station. If that isn't enough, she also released her first Instrumental C.d. and distributed it along the coast and online with the help of her mentor "Jay Burgess". F4LIS is currently attending Full Sail University in Orlando Florida to pursue her Career. She is studying "Recording Art's" and plans to be involved with all facets of Sound and Recording after she graduates. One thing is for sure, F4LIS is one of the most dedicated and determined forthcoming female sound masterminds.
Why this name?
"Me and my mentor were trying to come up with a catchier name than I had at the time, which was 'Dj uNeeQe' a name I had on my VA license tag as well, and then all of the sudden we came up with 'Effortless' because I just do it, I just make music and it comes natural to me. So with creative spelling 'F4LIS' is the name the rest is history"
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think it's easier for people to promote themselves these days but it's also the 'gift and the curse'. Things that are easy are not necessarily good for you. I believe in hard work and putting blood sweat and tears and you will be rewarded. Also the mp3s are good for idea's but it's ruining what the Audio Engineers and Mastering Engineers have worked so hard to accomplish. Great , solid, amazing crispy sounding music. The public is training there ears to basically, sonically hear garbage. They are by far getting the full effect of a great recording. I feel something should be done soon about this. Or at-least make it possible for the .wav files to be the new download format.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes, but it would have to be one that I believe in and feel strongly about. Some sort of connection a mental and physical connection would have to be there.
Your influences?
I am heavily influenced by DC go-go music, Timbaland, The Neptunes and Life's experiences.
