Artist Interview
An Exclusive with PaperTape

Tony at Club

More than a dj/producer, PaperTape (alias Tony) is the Digital Musician who has made a reputation in musical arts. Started with violin and piano at the age of 6, he was selected as the finalist for Governor School of Music and became a musical artist who contributed in various shows and acts.

After accomplishments as a solo violinist with numerous awards, he has started producing/mixing/recording and dj'ing. With his heart in capturing variety of talents, he is PaperTaping unsubstantiated artistry with PaperTape Production.

Below is an exclusive interview with the artist and SOUNDCLICK

How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?

PaperTape: I think it changed the industry a lot. If it wasn't for mp3 and the internet, I would never have thought of producing my own music the way I want and feel. It has brought some open doors.

Your influences?

PaperTape: M-flo has been my biggest influence. When I first heard them in HS I was astounded by their versatility and ability to mix different genres and sound good.

I am also deeply inspired by Monkey Majik, more of my style of music. They have good lyrics and tunes that just make you want to sing.

Other than that I like various musical artists including Death Cab, Jack Johnson, The Strokes, Snow Patrol...

But my music doesn't limit to just one genre. I'm just not all that into "today's" Hip/Hop and popular stuff.

Favorite spot?

PaperTape: NYC, Taipei, but the best place to be is with friends who care and make you happy

Equipment used:

konnektlivePaperTape: I started with Cool Edit Pro (now evolved into Adobe Audition) and Fruity Loops. I had some ideas and wanted to put it on something more tangible than just paper and voice.

Then I used Sonar on a Toshiba, it was great... allow me to do a lot of things I wasn't aware of. But my laptop reached it's limit so I decided to run Macbook Pro with Logic and Reason
Anything else...?

PaperTape: I believe in following one's heart
