Why this name?
The name "Beck" sounds like the beginning of my real surname, but it's spelt differently. Jenny is my real name. My real surname is a bit complicated for English speaking people to pronounce, so "Beck" seemed the natural choice.
Do you play live?
I do gigs all over the UK. I really enjoy it and am looking forward to doing more gigs to promote my new CD. The best gig so far was definitely performing alongside Roachford and Thunder during the Beached Festival in Scarborough, UK, a few years ago.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It's changed the music industry dramatically...in a very positive way for us independent musicians. Nowadays independent musicians don't necessarily have to have a record deal as it's so much easier to find an outlet for your music and you can do really well just selling your music yourself...more profit goes into your own pocket that way and you're more in charge. You can also build a good fan base online. Internet promotion is a huge part of getting your music out there these days.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes I would.
Band History:
Jenny Beck grew up in a suburban home in Stockholm, Sweden. She’s been into music all her life & was fed with sixties music from day one. Both her parents were into The Beatles & as a one-year-old Jenny used to dance to The Beatles music. It was the sixties music that inspired Jenny to start writing her own music & many of the songs suggest various sixties & seventies influences such as Joni Mitchell, Simon & Garfunkel & Don McLean, but whilst the sixties will always be a big part of Jenny’s music there are two major modern influences that has inspired her to write songs, Suzanne Vega and Tori Amos. The mix of modern & past influences create a unique & fresh feeling & sound to Jenny’s songs.
Jenny started writing songs as an eleven-year-old, inspired by her first ever LP purchases. She has been playing the flute since she was seven & has been a part of various classical orchestras. When her brother started taking guitar lessons, Jenny picked up guitar playing too and started taking classical guitar lessons. Shortly after she started composing her own material using the only two chords she knew then.
At the age of 19 Jenny graduated from sound technology school & was awarded a sound engineer diploma. During her four years at media school & sound technology school she started recording her own song material in the school studio with her sound technology teacher as producer.
Jenny writes, produces & engineers all her songs herself & with the help of professional musicians she’s managed to create 3 high quality productions that have attracted much attention world-wide.

Your influences?
My musical influences come from a lot of different artists and time periods. A lot of it can be found in the Sixties. Joni Mitchell is a huge influence, so are The Beatles. I tend to like and listen to singer/songwriters...mostly female. I like all sorts of music though...Folk, Pop, Country, R&B, Jazz, Rock...I'm like a sponge when it comes to music, so you can tell what I've been listening to from the songs I write at any specific time.
Favorite spot?
I love the Swedish archipelago. I grew up spending the summers there as my steph-dad owns a sail boat. I just love the evenings watching the sunset and hearing the sound of the ocean as it hits the side of the boat. I also love Stockholm, which is where I was born. It's a city that has absolutely everything you could ever want...culture, history, nature, great restaurants, pubs and clubs and a great atmosphere.
Equipment used:
I play a semi-acoustic Crafter and a Fender Squier.
