"Shooting day for night" is a cinematic technique for filming daytime footage that appears to have been taken at night. Not to be confused with the British duo with the same name, Day for Night of Portland, Maine, was attracted by the symbolic potential of the name.

Day for Night has performed in Maine at Blue, in Portland; the Frog and Turtle Gastropub, Westbrook; for programs of the Cornish Association of Businesses, including the annual Cornish Apple Festival; and at Bates College, including a concert produced by Bates radio station WRBC-FM and featuring the nationally acclaimed Powder Kegs. Previous incarnations of the band, including the Boarders, the Cowlix and the Fashion Jungle, have played at the Maine Festival, Geno's, the Congress Square Festival, the Maine College of Art, on the University of Southern Maine radio station WMPG-FM and at numerous other nightclubs and private functions.
