We are a 4 piece metal based emocore band from the Telford area in the West Midlands in the UK, the band was formed mid-2001 and has since had a few member changes before the final line-up of Matt Sherry (guitars), Adrian Turner (vocals/drums), Lea Harley (drums/vocals) and Scott Stewart (bass), was finalised in August of this year.
Why this name?
Good question, it was a name that Matt came up with in about March 2001, sounds somewhat political with everything that's happened in the world since then, but we are far from a political band and are looking to re-name prior to our next recording.
Do you play live?
since the end of 2001, Coalition has played a plethora of Telford shows all over the town, we haven't (thus far) played outside the town, but things are moving much faster now and will soon be playing further afield.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
This is the same old thing...again, it makes it easy for people to discover exciting new bands, but it also gives the opportunity to download a major bands entire new release for free, so i guess it hurts the industry that way, but if it wasn't for the net, most bands wouldn't have gotten as big as they have gotten, so all in all, it's good for us, bad for majors i suppose.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If one was ever interested! but seriously, probably yes, depending on how much input they wanted into image/sound/etc. we just want to get our music out and tour, so i guess that'd be funded, that's our ultimate aim.
Band History:
Drawing their influences from incendiary bands such as Deftones, Poison the Well, Thrice and From Autumn to Ashes, Coalition are as heavy as they are melodic, big choruses and searing riffs mixed in with larynx-shredding screams being the order of the day.

Coalition began in the minds of Matt Sherry (guitars) and previous bassist Wez Brazier, long before either had picked up an instrument! One of those, “man…! We should start a band” things. subsequent to various momentary band members coming and going, the first major step in the right direction came when a friend introduced us to Ade Turner in June ‘01 who initially joined the band as drummer, although it was mutually settled that we should find another drummer and switch Ade to vocals…this is when Lea Harley entered the fray in July ‘01.

The band immediately began writing their own original material, with a few choice covers thrown in every now and again, the bands first gig was a forgettable one to say the least, we played in a friends back garden (bigger than you imagine) to 50+ friends and family, we’ll just say the band was extremely drunk and leave it at that! Coalition have played many gigs in and around Telford since their inception and have recently appeared at the Godless II festival in Stoke alongside Razorwire and Burnt amongst others and have even supported British punk stalwarts the UK Subs in their time.

May 2003 saw Coalition enter the studio for the first time to record their 7-track debut demo/mini-album “Into the Void” featuring live favourites “Razorblades and sleeping pills”, “Into the void” and “Failing”, this cd is available at all Coalition shows for the princely sum of nothing! – we are looking to enter the studio to record our second demo in the 1st quarter ’04.

July saw the end of an era for Coalition when founding member Wez decided his time in Coalition was to come to an end citing “musical differences” as the reason, a replacement was swiftly found in Scott Stewart and brand new material has almost been writing itself since the change, all is looking good right now and ’04 will hopefully see Coalition come into their own.
