Spitting thought provoking and hard hitting punchlines, commanding the listener's attention for every second of a song, and telling the stories of all walks of life, is all part of Keen Lyricist's skill set. After dropping his first track composed of his own lyrics on an instrumental used by his favorite artist, he quickly gained the respect of his peers as an aspiring artist. He would also go on to perform his song at his high school's talent show. Born in India and raised in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, he has a unique flow acquired from a mixture of his influences. His biggest influence was an underground artist named Crooked I, and some others included Eminem, Ludacris, Kanye West, and Common. Keen Lyricist has aspirations of becoming a successful rap artist in the coming times and he hopes you can support him on the way there.
Why this name?
Keen Lyricist is known for writting sharp, and thought provoking lyrics, which is why his name is Keen Lyricist.
Do you play live?
Keen Lyricist performed his first song, a free verse on his favorite artist's instrumental, at his high school's talent show. He also looks forward to performing more songs at local clubs and shows.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet has an enormous effect on the music industry. Consumers have to make the choice between downloading for free and actually going out to buy and support an artist's album. As far as I am concerned, if I am an artist who makes a consistently solid album, and make it available on itunes, zune, etc. as well as have it available in stores, I should be successful in selling my album in large quantities.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes I would still sign a contract with a record label just as long as it balances out my University education and my music career.
Your influences?
Common, Talib Kweli, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Eminem, Ludacris, Crooked I
Favorite spot?
Hamilton, Ontario
Equipment used:
I recorded my first song at my friends house with a cheap microphone and cool edit pro. In the future I plan to record all of my songs in a professional studio with the standard equipment.
Anything else...?
I am a young aspiring MC with a great ambitions of becoming a globaly known rap artist. It all starts with this, making my online profiles for people to hear me. I will start out with small shows and slowly make my way up the ladder. Any support from you will be appreciated. I am currently in grade 12 and I know a large portion of my audience is also teenagers. This means that if all of you put my song on your iPod/mp3 player and in your car stereos, I can reach a lot of people. So as a final request, I would like everyone to download my first song "We Get Our Swagger On" for free and simply play it and show other people. Thank You.
