This band showcases some incredibly talented Denver singers on two CD's, Mommy sings God's Love Vol 1 and Old School Church Vol 1. Instrumental music is mostly by keyboardist Chuck Abernethy, who produced the CD's. MSGLV1 was released in Dec., 2008. OSCV1 was released in Sept., 2004.
Why this name?
Another EM "band." "Singas" reflects the current flava, but you will hear more diverse voices in the future as we record and release new recordings.
Do you play live?
Yes and no. Although we don't perform together as a group, occasionally, we will be in worship together or individually at various churches in the Denver area.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The Internet and MP3s changed the music industry worldwide in how music may be offered and acquired. SoundClick.com is great! Phenominal.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Sure, if we we could agree on terms.
Band History:
These recording go back to 2004, when the Old School Church Vol. 1 CD was released as a tribute to the late Shorter A.M.E. Community church Pastor Jesse Langston Boyd, prior to his "passing from labor to reward," as he would say. Most of the singers have known Chuck Abernethy and each other for years before the recordings, however. Bio info. on Rev. Dorothy Whitaker and Psalmist Bobbie Malone may be found at the www.EnsembleMgmt.com website. We hope to add more biogrphical profiles of EM aritsts there soon.
Your influences?
40's, 50's and 60's gospel artists: James Cleveland, Organist Don Lewis in CA. The Caravans, Dr. Horace Boyer, The Barrett Sisters, Dorothy Norwood, Albertina Walker, Billy Preston, Paul Schaeffer (???), etc.
Favorite spot?
Mine are Colorado, North Carolina, Washinton State and Vancouver, B.C. I'm sure all the singers have their own special places on this earth that they love.
Equipment used:
SONAR on Windows PCs., TruePianos, Roland, Yamaha and Korg synthesizers.
