Whats good? My name is Apollo DeLorean and I'm an up and coming producer from South Jersey. I am currently building up my resume and trying to aggressively shop my beats to different artists of all genres. I make music from the heart, so you will hear no filler from me. I am inspired by good music, and therefore I do not consider myself a member of any genre although I do specialize in hip-hop, R&B, and Pop. Any artists that want to work with me, hit up my email at apollodelorean@gmail.com. I hope that all the dreamers find my page an inspiration to continue to chase their dreams, and I hope that we can all achieve success together and make great music.
Why this name?
I chose my name based upon signs from God. I had been making beats and I was thinking damn I need a name. I was reading up on Greek mythology when I came across Apollo, who was the God of song and lyrics. I thought that name sounded great. Then as I turned my attention to the television, the movie Back To The Future was on during the scene where Michael J Fox's character takes off in the DeLorean. Then I looked at my iTunes that was playing and one of the featured artists playing was Mike DeLorean. It was fate. A DeLorean, in the movie, takes you throughout time and thats what I strive to do making beats...also, the maker of the DeLorean was booked and sentenced for helping traffic drugs....I look at my music like drugs....the correlations were too obvious and thats how I chose my name.
Do you play live?
I do not play live, however I eventually want to become a rapper and once this happens I will do live shows.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet allows everyone to interact and gives a voice to the little guy who is trying to make it big in the industry. It has also become the death of the radio and cd sales. Through the internet, people do not need to be subjected to music they do not want to hear and therefore most can enjoy whatever they really like for free. I think it's beautiful and allows us all to follow our dreams.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes, under the right situation. I think it can go one of two ways: 1.)You need to already have a pretty strong movement independently. Once this occurs, signing to a major label would be easier. 2)You need to get on the hot label of the moment, who has demonstrated a good history of promoting and marketing their artists.
Your influences?
My musical influences are first and foremost, the great producers of my time who have changed music at one point or another including The Neptunes, Kanye West, Timbaland, Swizz Beatz, & Polow Da Don. Other than them, I also look up to DJ Toomp, Danjahandz & Shawty Redd. As far as artists, I'm inspired by Jay-Z, OutKast, Lil Wayne, T.I., Ludacris, The Game, & Young Jeezy while on the alternative side I love Thom Yorke, Stereolab, Zero 7, Air, & Gnarls Barkley.
Favorite spot?
My favorite place in the entire world is New York City. It is a microcosm of the entire world with all of the different walks of life there and the city literally never sleeps haha.
Equipment used:
I use FL Studio only. Everyone gives producers flack for using FL Studio, but I don't have money to go out and buy an MPC and also everything I want to do is in FL Studio. I think when you hear the quality of my beats, you will agree that there is nothing wrong with FL Studio.
Anything else...?
To the artists: Lets get together and make history...step up our bars and lets body shit...it only makes it better for the quality of music and the industry will set itself right. Also, stop going after ringtones. Its fine to make songs to make people dance but there are some horrible songs that make cheap attempts at that.
To the producers: Lets continue to stretch the boundaries of what good music is and inspire each other to better our craft.
