In a time where Hip-Hop has been watered down and forced to favor egocentric chants of money, sex, drugs, and living life in the fast lane, one man delivering a message of self-expression emerges from North Carolina. The uplifting music of Headcase delivers an authoritative illumination of the world around us. Headcase, who also goes by the nickname Tenacious Nick, first went public with his talent in 2001 but back then, he was just a youngster with limited knowledge as to what Hip-Hop really was. Over the years he learned much, carefully crafting his style and defining what kind of artist he is. And now, with high school out of the way, he can focus on going worldwide with his musical abilities. He classifies himself as a 'blues rap artist', he combines Hip-Hop with the blues and old school rock & roll. He plays guitar, the drums, and the harmonica; he can sing pretty well but his forte is emceeing and Hip-Hop and is not to be confused with the rock band of the same name. Headcase is currently unsigned and is looking for a record deal; in November of 2005, he started working on his first full-length project, which is now titled "The Blue Moon Project"; the album currently in production.

No one really knows what the future holds for this young emcee, the only thing that's for sure about Headcase ... is nothing's for sure. (Last updated 8/26/06)

Why this name?
I am a champion for peace, love, and justice. This world is corrupt, and therefore causes justice to appear as insanity to the genral public. So they say I am insane, they call me a 'head case'. The meaning has changed a lot over the years, but I've used this name from the start and despite being classified as another 'crazy white boy' (like Eminem, Cage, Necro, etc.) because of it, I have no plans of changing it.
Do you play live?
In the past, the most I did is freestyle from time to time at school. So as of right now, no I don't do any live performances, but I do plan on going to open mic nights in my state when I get the time.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
From my stand point, it means more exposure. In the past, you'd have to travel from city to city to promote yourself and pass out promo CDs so people could hear your material but now, all you gotta do is upload your music onto a website like this and people can hear your music all over the world, and you don't even have to leave your house.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes I would, but only if it was on MY terms.
Band History:
Headcase first started writing his own songs in 2000, mostly influenced by The Lyricist Lounge show that appeared on MTV for a short time. He says his favorite skit was the one where Mos Def was on the ledge with Wordsworth. Also influenced by Weird Al Yankovic, he mostly wrote parody songs for fun, often playing around, and kept them to himself. He didn't start taking music seriously until 2001 when he was invited to rap in a cipher during lunch at Seventy First High School (in Fayetteville). For the rest of the year, he weaseled his way into ciphers but was easily embarrassed by the other rappers at the school. In 2002, he moved from Fayetteville to Erwin and got a fresh start on his career. For the last three years of school at Triton High, he would watch the battles that went on to collect some experience but would rarely compete. The reason for this was because he realized he "wasn't a battle rapper". In 11th grade, he got into the radio/TV program at Triton, and ended up hosting his own after school radio show, "The Lunatic Fringe", for a year and a half. He would freestyle from time to time, once even kicking a rap on his radio show. He put off his career until he finished high school, which he did in May of 2005. Now, with High school out of the way, this self-proclaimed 'Poetical Hellspawn' is ready to take on the world. (Last updated 9/15/05)
Your influences?
Man, there are tons of them, ranging from Hip-Hop to Rock and back again. I couldn't even name them all here but here are some of them, the ones that influence me the most: Bob Dylan (my musical idol), Little Brother, Supastition, Masta Ace, Canibus, Pink Floyd, Outkast, John Lennon and the rest of the Beatles, The Last Emperor, Wordsworth, Robert Johnson, Kid Rock, Queen, Eric Clapton, Ludacris, Bob Seger, Nas, Muddy Waters, Billy Joel, Kool G Rap, Notorious B.I.G, Rakim, Don McLean, Eyedea, Weird Al Yankovic, Royce Da 5'9", Everlast, and Yoko Kanno & the Seatbelts ... and that's only a few.
Favorite spot?
I don't really have one to be honest.
