I first heard this song on a TV commercial. Sad I know. I figured it was some new band, but a search revealed it was an old song from the Kinks. How'd I ever miss this one? This could easily be my theme song.
A great song, by one of my all time favorite bands, Wishbone Ash, about leaving the crowded life for the solitude of the mountains or in my case, the desert. If you listen very closely, you can hear peace calling out to you.
I remember hearing this song as a kid and being mezmorized by that long, sustained note (courtesy of a young Mr. Ted Nugent) leading into the break.
This song reminds me so much of the 60s and early 70s, where we all just wanted peace.
I don't think anyone my age can listen to this and not remember December 1980.
I've always loved this old songs and I've heard many great versions of it. This version is close to the Animals.
Written by Gordon Kennedy, my version of this song is kind of in between the versions by Garth Brooks and Susan Ashton.
Out here in the desert, a breeze in the summer is a very good thing, although sometimes even the breeze is so hot it feels like it's burning your nostrels. But, I love it anyway.
Addiction, to anything, is a terrible thing. It's even worse when you know it's just a matter of time before the spindly finger of temptation is back ... trying to grab you by the ear and show you to be the weakling that you are.
It's all about perspective in this great Phil Keaggy tune.
