Eric Sawyer began playing guitar in 1972, after hearing 'The Ballad of John Barleycorn' played by two seniors in the boarding school library at South African College Schools, Newlands. He was influenced by the popular music of the time until he heard, Neil Young and then Bob Dylan, and Rodriquez ( Sugarman ), Bad Company, Santana, Stephen Stills but only began composing his own songs in 1976 after he was filled with the Spirit of Jesus Christ. The songs featured here are from two CD's, 'The Nazarene' and 'Question of One'. They are both homestudio recordings and are made up of spiritual songs composed in 1976 (2) and some others, as well as a recording done by Andy Dunlop (bassist) including Nic Docking (drummer) of songs composed in 2006.
Why this name?
It is my own name.
Do you play live?
I live in England, and since my heart-attack in December 2007 I have spent more time recording, writing and working on my art. I am hoping to begin performing in Norwich, as soon as I get a speaker. (lol)
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Well, it has changed things quite a bit, but it has also made it far easier for those who want to get a listen to the album, before they decide to buy the actual recording, ie. wav. file. (the full quality!)
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Possibly. If they allowed me complete artistic freedom, and I mean complete artistic freedom. I don't want to hear the words, 'Let's make this song a more consumer friendly' Music needs to be unfettered by the suits!
