play lo-fi play hi-fi  Today, Again
Ravensgolde are a two piece band (and couple) based in New Zealand's capital city, Wellington. It's hard to describe us in genre terms since as far as our music goes we just like to do whatever we want, if you like it cool, if not well at least our friends still like us lol
Why this name?
Well we originally wanted to be Quoth the Raven but some sneaky Australians beat us to it, typical! Alternative variations on this theme also failed until the tall, dark, hairy one had a lightbulb moment and thought of it!
Do you play live?
We don't play live cos we both suffer really bad stagefright and would be best described as social recluses, but thanks to the magic of the intarweb we are brought to you at lightning speed (unless you have dial up).
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Heck yeah it makes it possible for Joe Blow on the other side of the planet to know who the heck we are, when in the good ole days we would have been lucky if the milkman knew us.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Don't really fancy being corporate slaves, it would have to be one heck of a easy going contract cos we prefer creativity over productivity.
Your influences?
She who sings has been influenced by all sorts. Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Beth Hart, The Cranberries, Bic Runga, Alison Moyet, Patsy Cline, Bonnie Raitt, Gary Moore, Jordan Luck, and 80's British music - the good stuff! (none of this Buck's Fizz rubbish) All sorts really.

He who likes to make noise (musical noise that is) adores Syd Barrett, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, The Who, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Chilli Peppers [Blood Sugar Sex Magic era only though...], Metallica, Lucid3, John MacLaughlin's Mahavishnu Orchestra, Dave Brubeck and Richard Cheese.

Sorry that probably doesn't give you many clues as to how we sound, maybe just take a listen to our stuff and make up your own mind.
