Stan Gull is a baby boomer who is rediscovering music as he embraces middle-age. After studying classical and jazz piano in his early carefree years, life happened. Forty years later, while on business trips to Boston, he was inspired by the sidewalk and subway sax soloists and the passion was reborn, this time on the tenor sax.
Why this name?
It's a play on my last name - nobody can spell it so I made it easy...
Do you play live?
Yes, where and whenever I can (jam sessions, community bands/orchestras). One time, at band camp (no, just kidding - at a block party), I had the pleasure of impromptu playing with a bluegrass guitar trio just jammin' out some blues.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Opens it up to the individual artist who still has to work for a living.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Sure! Have your people call my people...
Band History:
Still making it...
Your influences?
John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Boots Randolph, Thelonious Monk, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Stan Getz, Lester Young, Sonny Rollins, Cannonball Adderley, Grover Washington, just to name a few...
Favorite spot?
Philadelphia
Equipment used:
Yamaha YTS-82Z Tenor Sax
